To think these parents were rude

Was at a little Xmas tea party today at our children's centre and a small group of mums spent the whole time LOUDLY warning their children off the lollipops, cake and crisps and saying things like "Oh darling, we don't eat nasty, sugary cakes" while also snidely bemoaning the lack of broccoli florets etc on offer. Bad enough but most of them came empty handed while other mums and dads made the effort to supply this evil fare. I actually felt quite upset, as I'd provided the Rudolph curly wurly antler cupcakes stealth boast which DS was really proud of and I thought everyone would like (yes that is a bit pathetic!).

I just hope some of them are reading and know that it was actually pretty mean and hurtful and probably says a lot more about them than it does about my 'terrible' parenting

My sister was very much like this. She wouldn't let anything that wasn't organic etc pass her dd lips. I get the odd snarky comment about ds. When her dh was saying that they didn't agree with her having refined sugar blah blah,I simply said yes & look at her now. She is the proverbial kid in a sweet shop. She doesn't eat fruit, vegetables, most dairy, but will happily tuck into chips/pizza/chicken nuggets/sweets/crisps. They have made them so coveted it's all she wants.

They were rude.
But - to everyone saying its occasional - it's not here! There are parties every weekend, things on after school all the time where there are sweets/cakes etc. every day at lunch time ds is 'sharing' his friend's choc and crisps apparently.
I therefore have to try and limit him don't I- but I am concerned that a) im making the crap food more desirable and b) his friends parents will think I'm a killjoy!

Seriously, I don't think children should have sweets/choc/crisps every day, but I'm fine with him having what he likes at parties and having a treat in his lunch once a week, plus a dessert at weekends etc. but I feel I'm fighting a losing battle with all the sweets he's exposed to and no other parents around here seem bothered at all so I'm the only 'killjoy"!
I don't think my allowance would be restricting? Do you? But I think what he has is too much.

Don't know if it's been said but did their DC eat the cakes?
