To think these parents were rude

Was at a little Xmas tea party today at our children's centre and a small group of mums spent the whole time LOUDLY warning their children off the lollipops, cake and crisps and saying things like "Oh darling, we don't eat nasty, sugary cakes" while also snidely bemoaning the lack of broccoli florets etc on offer. Bad enough but most of them came empty handed while other mums and dads made the effort to supply this evil fare. I actually felt quite upset, as I'd provided the Rudolph curly wurly antler cupcakes stealth boast which DS was really proud of and I thought everyone would like (yes that is a bit pathetic!).

I just hope some of them are reading and know that it was actually pretty mean and hurtful and probably says a lot more about them than it does about my 'terrible' parenting

Curly Wurley's - just brought some for the kids sweet box. Didnt realise they did them any more!

Didnt Jamie Oliver's wife get haranged when she said at birthday parties she would whip away a piece of cake and replace with some fruit. Some people are so smug with their views.

Kids LOVE birthday parties, fat coke, cakes, crisps, and sweets. Thing is its not every day.

DeepThought · 20/12/2013 17:59

I am astonished that the childrens centre was encouraging parents to bring anything ''unhealthy'' like cupcakes, lollies etc, they have policies at ours wrt healthy living blah de blah

your cupcakes sound fab

headlesslambrini · 20/12/2013 18:00

The higher up the snooty ladder the harder they will fall, that's always been my motto.

Tailtwister · 20/12/2013 18:01

Surely they would know the kind of food which would be served at such a party? If they expected anything other than 'party food' then they should have buggered off elsewhere.

YANBU. Rude sods.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 20/12/2013 18:02

OP tell you DP to back away from the Rudolph cakes and pass them over here while I taste test them Xmas Wink

YANBU

lottieandmia · 20/12/2013 18:02

YANBU - they sound like the most joyless people ever. Their poor children is all I can say!

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 20/12/2013 18:03

Curly wurlys can be bought in places like Poundland/Poundworld, in packs of about 5 I think.

MrsApplepants · 20/12/2013 18:04

Curly Worley antler cakes - brilliant idea!! Thanks!

Oh YANBU

CranberrySaucyJack · 20/12/2013 18:05

YANBU.

When I'm elected Prime Minister, one of the first laws I'm gonna pass is that anyone who loudly mentions "refined sugars" at a children's birthday that they were not responsible for catering for will be taken out the back and cunt-punched.

AWimbaWay · 20/12/2013 18:12

Curly Wurly antlers, genius, I saw some the other day with pretzel antlers, I hate pretzels, curly wurlys would have been a fab alternative.

Thiscoukdbeme · 20/12/2013 18:20

YANBU
DS has allergies and genuinely can't eat a lot of the food at parties. I usually have to bring his own food for him. It breakes my heart when I have to tell him he can't eat the same food as the others. I have no idea why anyone would do that to their child without a real reason.

loveolives · 20/12/2013 18:20

They sound cunty, and cringe. YANBU

insummeritreinsdeer · 20/12/2013 18:25

They were rude, sad old scrooges. Their poor DC are probably given a plate of sprouts for their Christmas dinner.

Your curly wurly reindeers on the other hand, are inspired! Xmas Grin

RodneyTheChristmasElf · 20/12/2013 18:45

YABU purely for making me want curly wurly rudolph cakes.

reup · 20/12/2013 18:59

Fantastic cakes. I want one (or5)

Alanna1 · 20/12/2013 19:02

It depends on the ages IMO. I would have been really upset to go to a 1 y.o party and have loads of sweet stuff.

CailinDana · 20/12/2013 19:05

Yanbu. The last generation of parents gave kids food hangups by making them eat everything on their plate thus getting them to eat regardless of hunger. The current generation of parents are working on making their children afraid of food and turning treats into taboo. It just encourages children to develop a scary wild-eyed desire for junk. The more it's forbidden the more it becomes a source of unhealthy secretive behaviour and a focus of rebellion. I understand what a source of stress and worry food can be but taking away the fun, social element of food is so sad and pointless.

Of course some arsefaces use situation like that to broadcast their "superior" parenting.

You would have loved the party at our playgroup - I ate so many jellybabies I felt rather queasy. Sign of a good party in my book Grin

They were being arses. I would bet they are not a bundle of laughs to be with, Christmas or not.

CailinDana · 20/12/2013 19:08

Alanna - if you would feel that way surely you would just bring your own food rather than loudly complaining about the food other parents brought?

Tulip26 · 20/12/2013 19:19

Oh God, my other half is like that. I dread having kids as he'll be the one stopping them having anything fun. Then scoffing half of it himself...

He'll eat a low carb breakfast, then get a Greggs as he's atill hungry. Bonkers!

cjel · 20/12/2013 19:20

I've never heard such rubbish, who are these people, My dds ate well and still do One ex RM, one triathlete, But we love good party food. A dietician once told me any food is better than starvation. I think they have too little knowledge to understand the effect a tiny bit of party food a few times a year will have.

Also think that those dcs will grow up with a weird unhealthy attitude to eating by being denied stuff. Those parents should be guiding by example, a toddler won't understand what they are except that its banned food and we all know what happens when we are denied something.
OP Those cakes look amazing -well done you . I think you live in the real worldSmile

SauvignonBlanche · 20/12/2013 19:23

Your cakes look ace OP! Xmas Grin

LoisWilkerson1 · 20/12/2013 19:24

Xmas Angry so rude! Shame they spoiled what sounded like a lovely idea! YANBU! Merry Christmas OP.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 20/12/2013 19:26
