Bloody Grandma/Nan/Nanny Christmas Cards

Where is the Gran and Granny ones? Every year I have this battle.

Why oh why do they not sell any anymore? On the rare occasion I actually do find one it's always really pretty horrible or quite obvious it's mean to be from a child (which is fine when buying from DD but not when it's from me).

Anyone know if there is a shop hidden away anywhere which sells them?

I always struggle to find one that says "stepdad" on it, which surprises me in this day and age! I feel it a bit too impersonal to get a blank one.

MissWinter01 · 19/12/2013 19:12

Thanks "NannyOgg" will have a look. Grin

"BenNJerry" if you have a paperchase near you, try there. I was in the Edinburgh store yesterday and saw loads of step parent cards.

Can I throw step parent cards into the ring? I have spent nearly 30 years trying to find father's day cards which don't say 'dad' or 'daddy' on them for my step dad. It is one of the reasons why I have never bought any other person-specific cards until my son came along, and my parents and in-laws love a relationship specific card which my son has drawn in specially.

ComposHat · 19/12/2013 20:58

I sort of have that problem with my Dad in that all cards for fathers have foaming flagons of ale, fishing rods or classic sports cars on them. He has zilch interest in any of these things. So they seem wildly inappropriate for him.

Defo clintons!

MrsGarlic · 19/12/2013 21:23

I always have terrible trouble finding "Grandma and Grandpa" ones... they are usually "Nan and Grandad" or "Grandma and Grandad". Loads of "nan/nana" round here but few grannies or grandmas.

We once received "To a special grandson and his lovely fiancee at Christmas" from my husband's grandparents... god knows WHERE they found it and no it was not Moonpig/FunkyPigeon etc! I've kept it!

catgirl1976 · 19/12/2013 21:57

DS has a Granny and a Grandma

I struggle to find both tbh

It's all "Nan", "Nanny" and "Nana" Hmm

KittyLilith · 19/12/2013 22:06

How about finding a Naini card. Now that is impossible. Grin

MissWinter01 · 19/12/2013 22:44

KittyLilith you definitely win Smile

I want one with momma and gaga on - think that will be impossible!

themaltesefalcon · 20/12/2013 11:52

What a daft thing to waste your time worrying about.

MissWinter01 · 20/12/2013 12:08

themaltesefalcon Did anyone say they were worried. It's frustrating not worrying. No need for your post at all.

What a daft thing to waste your time writing.

I'm 'Grandmama' to the darling grandbrats. Never see cards saying that. 'Grandma' is the nearest.

OP - I'm sure your Gran/Granny will be delighted with any Christmas card you send her.

Curlyweasel · 20/12/2013 12:22

now, if only they did a card for gc with Happy Christmas Grandbrats! on it!!! Grin x

MissWinter01 · 20/12/2013 18:42

Haha I'm sure they would sell out quite quickly.

Spoke to my Mum (Nanny) about this very thread today - she was Confused that anyone other than her and her family should actually give a flying fuck about a) what she would like to be called by her grandchildren and b) the fact that she loves getting cards with 'Nanny' on the front.

So, to everyone who is taking time out of their day to come onto this thread and have a pop at those of us who like this cards, my lovely Mother sends a two-finger greeting Grin

You need an old-school market stall - they have all the obscure cards. I can always find a Granny one in that sort of shop/stall.

MissWinter01 · 20/12/2013 18:53

Heartbrokenmum73 I love your Mum :-)

I don't see how SettingPlaster was rude. She gave her opinion then acknowledged that it was a matter of personal choice.

MissWinter01 · 20/12/2013 18:58

Well the thread was about where to get cards not about you preference for what to call Grandparents. Several posters had said they look for Nan, Nanny cards etc that in my opinion is rude and unnecessary...

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 20/12/2013 19:01

Discussion does tend to move from the original OP. I think we'll need to agree to differ.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 20/12/2013 19:09

I get MissWinter's point, Sooty.

I said the same thing to my Mum today. Had the thread been titled 'what do you think of cards with Mum/Grandma/Uncle' on them, then fair enough, pile in and say what you think. The thread was about where to get them from, though.

Anyone going out of their way to post on a thread that they think cards like that are 'tacky' or 'awful' (two words used in this thread) has no other reason than being bitchy.

If I saw a thread asking advice on where to get something, I wouldn't think 'well, I don't have any helpful advice, but I'll make sure they all know that I'm looking down my nose at them'. I just wouldn't post.

Unless it was a thread about something harmful or particularly offensive - neither of which personalised cards are.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 20/12/2013 19:13

I meant to add to the bottom of my last post that some people should remember:

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
