...to think I'd hate it if Linda Barker ended up designing my rooms on 60 minute makeover

I am just watching today's 60 minute makeover. Oh yuck. I mean honestly. Her re-vamps absolutely suck. She makes it too much about her. And what was all that twig stuff about with the shelves?

I think the homeowners are underwhelmed.

I think she is a lovely woman. She comes across well. But it's the equivalent of pulling the short straw if you get her to do your re-design.

I just Googled her images. All of her, mostly in a bikini. It really shows what people are hired for...

CrohnicallySick · 19/12/2013 15:08

I remember one makeover show- can't remember if it was Linda Barker or not- and the woman came back to find her dining room decorated in bright red paint and zebra print fur. She burst into tears and said she hated it!

ComposHat · 19/12/2013 15:13

From what I remember from Changing Rooms her and Lawrence Llwelyn Bowen (any relation to Jim?) Were hell bent on turning every room they got their hands on into a 70s fun fur meets Regency bordello hell hole.

malteserzz · 19/12/2013 15:18

I watched it today too and thought it was awful
Wish they would bring back changing rooms

TheGinSoakedBoy · 19/12/2013 15:19

She drives me dotty, her voice just grates on me.
I agree though, she is definitely the short straw!

MincedMuffPies · 19/12/2013 15:23

I so wish changing rooms would come back.

thebody · 19/12/2013 15:23

They are vile aren't they?

There was one a couple of weeks ago where she turned a perfectly nice, albeit a little dull, living room into a 1970's mismatched jumble-saley type pit. The owner was very polite but a fiend and I were taking bets on how long she'd keep it like that for!

TBH, I very rarely 60 Minute Makeover though because 60 minutes is about 59 minutes 59 seconds too much Peter Andre for me. I know he loves his kids, but even so.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 19/12/2013 15:50

A FRIEND not a FIEND! I have not been discussing daytime TV with a fiend!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 19/12/2013 15:53

Do you remember that awfully sad changing room's one where Linda designed a swinging shelf for the owner's precious china tea pot collection?

Supporting wires broke, tea pots smashed. Poor poor woman. It was terrible.

And the art students who kicked off at Anna Ryder Richardson because put them to work creating a sculpture out of polystyrene balls 'without a brief'. GrinGrin

Lettucesnow · 19/12/2013 16:20

I remember the tea pot one...SMASHING!!!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 19/12/2013 16:41

I agree it was hideous today, and they must do such a half arsed job. Granite veneer stuff glued onto the existing worktop? Really?

They hated the wallpaper too (despite saying it had "grown on" them- haha!)

She also has the most irritating squeaky voice ever. Angry

rpitchfo · 19/12/2013 16:47

Why 60 minutes ? if someone is down on their luck and the house needs a do up a half baked rush job isn't going to help. Do it over a couple of days! Stop being cruel

I'd hate to be on 60 minutes makeover no matter who the designer was. And changing rooms was terrible.
Half the time the before is better than the after. It's obvious that some of the home owners don't like it but are too polite to say so.

The living/dining room she did the other day was awful. All mismatched chairs and she upcycled (painted) all the couple's lovely furniture and made it look worse.

letzygonsbezyons · 19/12/2013 18:55

House doctor was the best! simple, neutral, and ready to move!

The rest were just awful-but we watched them in cringy glee!

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 19/12/2013 19:28

70s fun fur meets Regency bordello hell hole. Xmas Grin

I used to like some of the rooms a few series ago, now they all look so horrible

LittleMissRedSparklyBaubles · 19/12/2013 19:32

Some of them are bloody awful, and done to a really poor standard. Have seen some where they paint over woodchip and borders or paint really badly round windows etc.

Not seen it so much lately, but they used to say at the end how much the furniture and stuff the owners got was worth, and it was thousands! (I could live with having to redo the crap painting if I liked the furnishings)

thenightsky · 19/12/2013 19:37

I remember one on changing rooms where Lawrence Llewelyn thingy took all the storage out of a bedroom, leaving the poor victim nowhere to hang her clothes at all. then he painted it all battleship/combat greens and greys. I read that the couple never spoke to their neighbours again. Woman wept when she saw it.
