Would I be unreasonable to give DS (9 months) a bit of a mince pie?

He loves his food and happily scoffs everything put before him. The last few days he's been trying to help himself to mince pies. He wants to eat a mince pie almost as much as he wants to eat baby Jesus out of the nativity set we have. Would I be the worst parent in the world if I let him try it (the mince pie, not baby Jesus)?

Course not! My 2yo has at least one a day though, so may not be the best person to ask!!

DingDongHairyPOnHigh · 18/12/2013 08:41

YABU! They are disgusting! Xmas Grin

Mymumsfurcoat · 18/12/2013 08:41

What's wrong with mince pies?

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 18/12/2013 08:42

go for it!

MummyBeerestCupOfCheerest · 18/12/2013 08:42

Why not?

princessalbert · 18/12/2013 08:42

YWNBU.

just go steady on the brandy butter. Xmas Grin

I always fed Ds the same as us, and he is the least fussy eater ever.

MummyCoolski · 18/12/2013 08:42

It will be fine! They are sugary, but the fact that you are even worried about it means you are probably the kind of person to be giving him a fairly balanced diet anyway. It's a treat, but it's also Christmas. Grin

Gigondas · 18/12/2013 08:42

Fine if he likes it - one of mine does, other hates them so yanbu.

GinGinGin · 18/12/2013 08:43

Mince pies disgusting Shock. I've made little mini ones for my 1yo - she has one after her tea & loves it! Course YANBU op Smile

dobedobedo · 18/12/2013 08:47

Eww mince pies are gross. Can't see them harming your baby though!

Why is it that the traditional christmas dessert things are horrible? Mince pie and christmas cake - bleugh.

mrsjay · 18/12/2013 08:48

urm I am confused why cant your 9 month old have mince pies he can chew yes then he should be getting stuck right in Xmas Grin

Mishmashofstyles · 18/12/2013 08:49

My seven month old had a bite of my caramel slice in Starbucks yesterday.
I feel no guilt.

mrsjay · 18/12/2013 08:49

they ae traditionally -gross-- made like that because it was the only fruit around at this time of the year (Ithink) I hate mince pies and christmas pudding and bleurgh christmas

RodneyTheChristmasElf · 18/12/2013 08:56

I thought you we're supposed to give them sugar, which is why I was checking. But then I suppose I'm also not supposed to give him dog biscuits which I caught him munching on the other day.

Oh yes get him into mince pies early on so he grows to love them :)

pianodoodle · 18/12/2013 09:00

I'm pretty sure DD had eaten her fair share of Chappie Complete by 9 months too...

mrsjay · 18/12/2013 09:00

urm dog biscuits are great for teething babies honestly Grin it is fine a wee bit of sugar really does not hurt or send them into orbit
