I just read that 28th Dec was traditionally known as Childermas, a day reserved for spoiling the DC. As the day itself was more formal and religious in past times.
So maybe it would be a good one to start celebrating with your other family.

Must tell my Mum this, Christmas Day will be mainly with the great grandparents this year (due to illness they can't be moved around much) and we'd love an extra special day for the little ones to run riot :)

Well... Childermas is really about the Slaughter of the Innocents, isn't it? Herod killing all the boy babies? I'm not sure if that's something to celebrate!

Maybe I could dress DP up and have him chase them around while I have a sit down to add some authenticity? :D

Marvellous! You have an incentive for good behaviour, right there!

JollySantersSelectionBox · 17/12/2013 12:18

It's a way of getting them to write their thank you letters anyhow.

Lol yes that is the origin of it overandabove but like any of the martyrs who we have Saints days for it is best not to think about that side of it.
