Hit by lorry

Hit by lorry on the motorway tonight, Driver thought he would share my lane Hmm

He stopped but no conversation possible as he was Spanish and didn't speak English.

He helped me on with my coat on the hard shoulder while we waited for the police. When they had finished their business he gestured to his heart as if to say sorry and then gave me a kiss on each cheek.

AIBU to feel just a bit sorry for him as he looked as shaken as I felt even though he was in the wrong?

Please don't drive the car until it's been assessed properly, there could be damage you can't see.

Pan · 16/12/2013 23:40

yes, the Spanish thing - I ride a bike into and around a busy city centre. The foreign reg drivers are utterly fine compared with our home-grown crew. Picking out the nationality is unfair.

I meant that to mintyy not you OP.

DeepThought · 16/12/2013 23:47

you might do well to take some painkillers to bed, you could feel a bit stiff through the night

thank goodness you are okay my dear

madasa · 16/12/2013 23:49

Fortydoors am off to Germany with my daughter to sample the Christmas markets.

Have just taken some painkillers Deepthought as unsurprisingly I have a headache.

Thanks for all your replies...just felt a bit shaky and helped to write it down.

A Morris Minor? Lorries would just bounce of it.Grin

madasa · 16/12/2013 23:54

It is very sturdy Pan but not sure I want to test that theory out!

You really are very VERY lucky.
My uncle died in crash caused by a German lorry driver who fell asleep at the wheel and failed to brake when joining a queue on a motorway slip. Lorry driver thought he'd hit another lorry, completely unaware of the two cars he'd crushed in between them... He killed two men and two young boys.

FirstStopCafe · 17/12/2013 02:55

Glad you are okay. I was also once hit by a lorry coming into my lane. Driver was Dutch. Very lovely at the time and apologised. When it came to insurance though everything changed - the lorry driver lied and said I came off hard shoulder into them. Took over a year but they finally accepted liability when we threatened court. It was very stressful. Hope your experience is easier

Oh JanetAndRoy how absolutely horrendous. I think I am more shaken up by what could have been rather than the actual incident. I have to drive to the airport this morning and to be honest I feel a bit sick. I know I was so lucky. Sorry for the loss of your uncle...what a tragic waste of four lives Sad

FirstStopCafe scary isn't it? Glad you are ok. From now on I will only overtake a lorry with two lanes clear. Hope he will just accept liability but will just take it step by step. I have a round trip of anything between 70-100 miles a day to work so have to get back in my car despite not wanting to.
