Fuck, fuck, fuck, useless bastards. Telephone banking should be used as some sophisticated high level of torture.

I want to kill them, and now myself.

The useless time wasting bastards.

Sorry you are having a time with it. Calling any bank is a nightmare at the best of times.

If it makes you feel better though - that thread title will have me giggling for days and I'll be wanting to "nuke" everything and everyone now.

First Direct are very good, certainly in comparison to other banks.

XiCi · 16/12/2013 20:43

I'm quite surprised really. Haven't had a single problem with in 15 yrs+

PrincessFlirtyPants · 16/12/2013 20:43

Oops, clicked post too quickly.

Care to share the problem someone on here might have a solution. Smile

Orangeanddemons · 16/12/2013 20:43

stillon hold.Angry...only minutes so far. The last one was 45 mins, both because of their general level of complete incompetence.

How can such a huge institution be so monumentally shite?

SantyClaws · 16/12/2013 20:44

I banked with them when i lived in the UK and they were fab - sorry you're having a hard time OP

BIWI · 16/12/2013 20:44

I'm amazed! I've banked with them for almost 25 years and haven't had a single problem. They have been brilliant, actually.

WowOoo · 16/12/2013 20:46

I've found them to be by far the best bank in my experience.

Don't hold for 45 mins - that'll cost you, they'll call you back. That's what I do.

Hope you get through and get whatever it is sorted out soon.

Lollypop1983 · 16/12/2013 20:46

Used to work for FD. Training is rubbish, I hated putting customers on hold, I always offered to call them back. Ask them to call u back when they have issue sorted.

petal68 · 16/12/2013 20:46

That's bizarre, I've been with them 20 years and can count on one hand the amount of times I've been on hold.

Not good for you tho

AnnBryce · 16/12/2013 20:47

They've always been fantastic with me, I hope you get sorted !

ellaballoo · 16/12/2013 20:48

I've been with them for years and years without a problem.Hope you get it sorted.

NoComet · 16/12/2013 20:48

Please nuke Lloyd's at the same time.

ellaballoo · 16/12/2013 20:49

I think it's a good sign that so many customers are protective of them!

Alanna1 · 16/12/2013 20:50

I liked FD too for the 5+ years I banked with them. Am with barclays now and I really really miss FD!

Orangeanddemons · 16/12/2013 20:51

Trying to switch accounts. Old account have our address, but First Direct say they don't. Have spent 2 hours on the phone to both banks. Old bank have confirmed our address, so it must be First Direct who are arseholes.

OP posts:
Mintyy · 16/12/2013 20:56

Sorry you are having problems. Have to say this is the first time I have ever seen anyone posting about a problem with them.

Most often it is people saying they are desperate to switch bank accounts and 99% of people recommending First Direct.

Just be aware that if you do switch to any other bank you will 1. have to go through an automated options list before you get connected (unlike First Direct) and 2. you will have to go through another subset of options (unlike First Direct) and 3. you will have to wait on hold for about 20 minutes (unlike First Direct) and 4. you will get connected to someone in a faraway country (unlike First Direct).

So be careful what you wish for.

Mintyy · 16/12/2013 20:57

I've been with them since the very beginning in the 1980s. Am fiercely loyal Grin.

Orangeanddemons · 16/12/2013 21:01

We'll they same like the biggest shower I have ever come across.

Trying to sort out a mortgage with them which means changing bank accounts. Mortgage people have give us 3 lots of incorrect info which means the offer has been held up.

But the banking people are even worse. Sending us forms saying you don't need to take further action, the texting me and demanding further action. If I see the text from them one more time that says phone switching team, I will truly die. How can those 3 words manage to send such a cold feeling of black despair through me? GrinAngry

NewtRipley · 16/12/2013 21:03

Sorry about this.

I am surprised. We've always had really good service from them.

Their customer service is their big draw, so I think that you should take your complaint to the top

RenterNomad · 16/12/2013 21:07

I don't telephone bank generally (I use their internet banking), but they've been very good when I've had to do CHAPS transfers (they called me to check some things).

Orangeanddemons · 16/12/2013 21:08

Yep another devoted FD-er here too, with them since they started, never have a problem.

Once they cocked up (back in 1990) & when I rang to sort it they called me back within the hour, apologised & ADMITTED it was their cock up, no excuses & undid all the transactions, waived the charges & gave me £25 as an apology.

If you get through to Customer Services & let them know you are unhappy I'm sure they'll sort it.
