DSis is hosting Christmas this year

She is wonderful person (and great cook) put totally disorganised and last minute

She still hasn't ordered a turkey and when I mentioned it to her tonight said "Oh I'll get round to it. It will be fine"

THEN she said "I might get a boned and rolled joint. No one eats the legs"

You can't have a joint for Christmas. You need to see the bird in all it's glory looking amazing. It's part of Christmas

She'll be saying she isn't doing pigs in blankets or Yorkshire puds next

Shock

You offer to buy and cook the turkey then.

Yama · 15/12/2013 19:30

It's like housework isn't it - whoever does it is in charge of what's done.

And Yorkshire puddings only go with roast beef so unless your having beef and turkey yabu about that too!

ChristmasJumperWearer · 15/12/2013 19:32

Her rules.

DH has made a boned/rolled joint before, stuffed with sausagemeat and cranberries. It looked amazing, tasted delicious and, most importantly, cooked in next-to-no time so that he could spend time with our family and guests.

Sounds like a great idea, if done well.

catgirl1976 · 15/12/2013 19:33

I have offered to buy the turkey or do Christmas at mine.

And she's getting me to go halves on the cost of all the food anyway

She thinks that she will have trouble getting a turkey as her DP is a farm vet but a joint will be better as "no one likes leg"

:( I'd rather have it at mine.

I would not serve a turkey joint and would be totally organised. With nice spreadsheets and things Grin

(DSis and I may be slightly different in our approaches.........) :)

Aaahhh see I'm getting an M&S crown this year, something I'd normally shy away from; but we're driving to Cornwall from London on Christmas Eve and I just don't have the time to do all the prep Sad

Normally I buy a fucking massive turkey to feed 16 people, and brine it a la Nigella for a day and a half.

I'm quite looking forward to not nursing a 25lb hunk of dead bird for 36 hours this year...

noblegiraffe · 15/12/2013 19:34

Good grief. No you don't.

olympicsrock · 15/12/2013 19:34

We ordered our turkey from lovely butchers yesterday - plenty left. You do need a proper turkey so YANBU but yorkshire puds - that's for roast beef so YABU there...

Actually ChristmasJumper that does sound nice

I had visions of some Bernard Matthews special in my head.

But still. I want a proper bird

turkey crown?

ScarletLady02 · 15/12/2013 19:38

I have never in all my 30 years had a Christmas involving a massive bird in all it's glory...am I missing out? Grin

MoominMammasHandbag · 15/12/2013 19:38

Let it go cat girl. Are you one of those spooky fuckers too?

TheBookofRuth · 15/12/2013 19:40

Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner? Perish the thought.

I'm only doing a turkey because DH is a traditionalist and his bottom lip wobbles if I suggest otherwise. But if it was down to me I'd do something else entirely.

sooperdooper · 15/12/2013 19:40

I agree with your sister, and yorkshire puds don't go with Christmas dinner either!!

Ladyglamalot · 15/12/2013 19:40

Yabu-you should be making her cook goose-that is far superior to horrible, dry turkey

Pancakeflipper · 15/12/2013 19:41

I ditched the big bird for a crown a few years ago. It changed our lives.

PorkPieandPickle · 15/12/2013 19:42

I hate turkey, we have duck or lamb. I don't care about seeking a bird, the bird wouldn't come out the kitchen anyway!!

ChristmasJumperWearer · 15/12/2013 19:44

A crown or, even better, a goose is definitely better than a whole turkey. Much easier to cook, too.

Xmasbaby11 · 15/12/2013 19:44

I would want a proper turkey, but it's her rules and I'd be someone else taking charge, TBH. Just enjoy not having to think about it this year!

I've not heard of Yorkshire puddings on Xmas day .. think that would be too much for me, with all the traditional trimmings.

YABU, sorry. Let it go!

Golddigger · 15/12/2013 19:45

Grin Grin
Sorry. Just lurking and couldnt not comment to Pork.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/12/2013 19:45

I'm doing a whole bird as I've got family coming but think I'll have a crown next year.
No to Yorkshire puddings though! Xmas Shock
