DSis is hosting Christmas this year

She is wonderful person (and great cook) put totally disorganised and last minute

She still hasn't ordered a turkey and when I mentioned it to her tonight said "Oh I'll get round to it. It will be fine"

THEN she said "I might get a boned and rolled joint. No one eats the legs"

You can't have a joint for Christmas. You need to see the bird in all it's glory looking amazing. It's part of Christmas

She'll be saying she isn't doing pigs in blankets or Yorkshire puds next

Shock

Crown here, got round to ordering it today.

NoComet · 15/12/2013 19:45

My Philistine family don't like turkey, so we get beef on Christmas Day, chicken on Boxing Day and yours hire puddings in both Grin

DH has a Christmas spread sheet, but his involves light bulbs. (We have an awful lot of fairy lights, light bridges and several fibre optic trees. Even with some LEDs there still seem to be 100 types).

MrsCakesPremonition · 15/12/2013 19:46

Do a proper bird at Easter and let your DSis do her own thing.

Kikibee · 15/12/2013 19:47

Yorkshire pudding?? Next thing you are going to complain there will be no mint sauce or horseradish with your Christmas meal!!!

drudgetrudy · 15/12/2013 19:48

No ,sorry - its you, making a fuss about nothing.

Ifancyashandy · 15/12/2013 19:48

Oh god. You'd turf me out of the 'Good Woman' club. I buy prepared stuffing. In a silver try's and everything. And buy prepped veg. But not roasties. Do them meself.

But no to Yorkshires with Christmas Dinner. Or at any time. Horrible things.

Ifancyashandy · 15/12/2013 19:49

Silver *tray...

Is this a good time to mention prepped pigs in blankets also?

bellablot · 15/12/2013 19:50

YABU. Control freak alert, better run quick! Confused

littlewhitechristmasbag · 15/12/2013 19:54

I am the only person in my house who sees the full bird in all its glory after cooking. Everyone else want to see it on their plate carved with a light covering of gravy! My DD's prefer leg meat so a crown would not do here. However i think it would be easier to have a crown.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 15/12/2013 19:54

We have yorkshire puds on Christmas.
We dont have a whole bird.
AND nothing we have is from M&S...
Oh the horror...

catgirl1976 · 15/12/2013 19:55

I am being pretty light hearted :)

But I love Yorkies with everything

I suggested a crown as I would be happy with that

I'm down with pre-prepped pigs in blankets and ready pre-pepped veg

I just think a joint is a bit meh for Christmas dinner. And I've told her as we have a good enough relationship for me to say that without her minding. Or for me to mind if she totally ignores me and gets one anyway

You'll be fine getting food, my mum sadly died on 22nd December four years ago. We hadn't obviously been prepared for Christmas but decided pretty quickly it wouldn't help us to have a normal day on Christmas day. We managed to order a lovely free range turkey on the morning of the 23rd, we picked it up from the farm the same day. We also got a joint of beef, chipolatas, streaky bacon etc from the butchers, and did a supermarket shop for veg. It's definitely not impossible to pull a Christmas dinner together at short notice.

Nanny0gg · 15/12/2013 19:59

The dark meat's the best part...

Katnisscupcake · 15/12/2013 20:00

I always buy the normal big turkey because dh is a whizz with it... he removes the legs prior to cooking, takes all the meat off of them and stuffs the leg meat with stuffing and seals them in tin foil. So the turkey itself is quicker to cook and you have lovely turkey wrapped stuffing to go with it, yum. Hence why we don't get the crown either - it would take away his fun!

perplexedpirate · 15/12/2013 20:01

DH has decided we're having pheasant. Hmm

I'm vegetarian, he can do what he wants. Smile

K8Middleton · 15/12/2013 20:02

Yabu but you have inspired me to say that I will not be cooking a flipping whole duck in a holiday cottage with all the resulting fanny and faff including dealing with litres of fat and having to clean the oven and, and, and...

So sod it. I'm doing something easier of my choosing because I'm cooking the bloody dinner and I'm compromising everywhere already and it's the only bit I like doing, cooking the dinner and drinking wine. I've already been pushed into doing loads of thing I know will cause bored, irritable children and then have to listen to the moans of "what a shame he isn't behaving" and "he's being rather over excited. Oh dear" and ""the baby's crying. Again". Funny that, expecting them to sit through a 2 hour meal after letting them eat sweets and ice cream and open 30 presents each Hmm

Bloodyteenagers · 15/12/2013 20:05

Your sis needs a pat on her back, not doing Turkey. Turkey is a massive meh. Not a lot really you can do with it.
Not done turkey for years. Instead I get a lovely massive leg of lamb, the bone removed, then the meat rolled and stuff with herbs, onions, rice, pine nuts, and garlic.

Turkey has no place in any meal, let alone Christmas Dinner!

We always have beef, or sometimes maybe chicken.

It would turn my stomach to see a whole bird sitting on the table, ready to be carved up, one of the reasons I only ever buy chicken breast fillets, I can't bear to see legs and non white meat.

But I am a fussy bugger!

catgirl1976 · 15/12/2013 20:06

She is doing Turkey

To be fair to her this is only because her DP didn't want Goose.

She's just not doing a proper turkey

And Maryz has ruled in my favour so I'm happy and the matter is settled Grin

Think you may need to unclench just a little . Her cooking , her choice.

K8Middleton · 15/12/2013 20:09

I don't care about the pigs in blankets

Shock Wash your mouth out Maryz!

formerbabe · 15/12/2013 20:10

A whole bird is a lot of work for little reward...I am turkey crowning it this year...less waste, less work, not so dry. Its a win win.

MarlenaGru · 15/12/2013 20:16

We have never had turkey and never will. And always have yorkshire puddings. Yum.
YABU to eat dry, revolting turkey.
