To tell him to get up and get on with it or cancel visit?

Husband was out last night, works do. He has been throwing up since 2am, is still being sick now. Must have been a good night!

However, four of his relatives are due to visit for lunch. He promised me that he would help with the cooking and entertaining, and therefore "wouldn't get too drunk".

If he's likely to still be throwing up when they are here would it be unreasonable to cancel the visit? Or do I just have to get on with it and do all the entertaining myself?

Not impressed.

I'd cancel if I were you - either tell them he's too ill or too hungover. No reason at all why you should have to do all the work and all the entertaining.

He's now blaming it on dodgy seafood at chinese restaurant. The wafts of alcohol suggest otherwise.

Ask him if he's fit to help. If he says no, cancel. If he says yes, step back and let him get on with it.

His relatives - ask him what he's going to do, and if he cancels he makes the call and tells them.

I'd tell him to do the cancelling, not your problem he decided to get pissed

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/12/2013 09:53

He's decided to get on with it and is now upright.

He can't cancel on the basis of "illness" as his mum knows he was going out last night and will be swiftly rumbled.

Looks like he's going to have to face his grandparents with a massive hangover instead.

Tell him to have some alka seltzer and get on with it like we all do!

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 15/12/2013 10:18

Hair of the dog.

Its the only way.

Just really slowly drink wine. Like one or two glasses slowly through the day. No more or he'll just be pissed again!

Apparently my friends doctor actually recommended her this!!

Actually, if he's been throwing up since 2 it probably isn't just alcohol - although you will smell alcohol if he drank it. I don't see how he's be 'rumbled' because of going out last night, either - people get ill over night, surely?
Anyway, if he says he is OK, just do what you would normally do. Don't 'leave him to it' if you would normally help, just pitch in together.
