My DP is 42 and is having a midlife crisis style overhaul. He lives in jeans and t-shirts and wants something more fashionable but still suitable for his age.

What does your DP/DH wear?

In the house or outside?

In the house, joggers or shorts, outside he always wears smart slacks/trousers. Doesnt own a pair of jeans

Weeantwee · 14/12/2013 15:58

My DH also lives in jeans but hates t shirts so it's always long sleeved tops or shirts. He's been going through a checked shirt phase lately. He's terrible with clothes, it's taken me 6 years to stop him wearing North Face gear 24/7!

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 14/12/2013 15:59

Outside the house I meant yes Smile

Nice jeans or cords - Pierre Cardin, autograph etc. polo shirts with collars, not t shirts without collars. Short sleeve casual shirts.

natwebb79 · 14/12/2013 16:03

My DH is a bit of a mod boy so generally dark blue Levi jeans, smart knitted long sleeve polo shirts by Gabicci/Penguin/John Smedley etc. and desert boots. He's very particular Grin

Salmotrutta · 14/12/2013 16:04

Jeans, collared golf t-shirts, golf jumpers with high necks or v-necks, brogues or Doc martens or golf shoes

... Only half-joking Hmm

Felix90 · 14/12/2013 16:04

My OH wears jeans (straight leg or slim fit ones), nice t-shirts or polo shirt. Maybe a checked shirt if he's feeling fancy. Usually with a pair of Vans! When I first met him he dressed so scruffy (old jeans and baggy hoodies, students!) and now I seem to have finally worked my magic a few years later.

He gets a lot of stuff from TK Maxx as they are really good for jeans and polo shirts (Ralph Lauren ones are dead cheap there) and also his Mum usually gets him shirts and a couple of jumpers for Christmas from Fat Face. Oh and he's always wearing his Barbour parka jacket!

raisah · 14/12/2013 16:05

As if he got dressed in the dark which is why we are rarely seen together....in public!

Yellowcake · 14/12/2013 16:08

OP, are you expecting someone to reply with 'Knee-breeches, sarongs, Fair Isle jumpers and Ugg boots'? Grin

I would have said that the beauty of men's clothing is that it's pretty low-key and unvariable, unless you're a Goth, steampunk or circus performer!

Pat this time of year, my husband wears ancient jeans and cords, very soft old shirts and chunky jumpers and cardigans that really suit him. His only quirk is bespoke shoes and boots, as he has unbelievably narrow feet. I really like his look, actually. A lot of his clothes are ancient, as he's remained the same size all his adult life, and looks after whatever he buys.

Yellowcake · 14/12/2013 16:09

AT this time of year, I should have said.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/12/2013 16:10

Jeans and t shirts

If he wants sex he wears v neck cashmere jumpers as it makes me want to snuggle him Grin

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 14/12/2013 16:10

My DP is 28, he wears levi's, t-shirts and skate shoes (DC's and Vans etc)

Sounds horrible, but he looks good and our styles compliment each other

Looks lovely when he's dressed smart though. Blush

Jinty64 · 14/12/2013 16:11

Whatever I buy him. He doesn't shop.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 14/12/2013 16:11

Oh and he likes 'jirts' as he calls them, jumpers with shirts in haha.

felix you're partner sounds like mine. My DP love TK Maxx for jeans and tees.

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 14/12/2013 16:12

I've no idea Yellowcake Grin. I'm running out of ideas fast for him and needed some Mumsnet inspiration!

I love cardigans but he refuses to wear them Envy

DH wears jeans, chinos, suit trousers for work and weddings, and just on the knee shorts. He wouldn't wear cords if you paid him.
He wears t-shirts but not ones with pictures on, unless they are places-he's-visited ones. He also wears collared shirts, collared t-shirts (from Debenhams, mostly, I buy them when I'm back over there!) and polo shirts, depending on the event/activity.
He's 37 - I don't think he needs an overhaul at all, he dresses far better than most people in this country.

isitnormal · 14/12/2013 16:12

When I met DP, his wardrobe mainly comprised of jeans and shoes that were falling apart, tshirts with stupid slogans on them and shirts that were way too big for him - he was loathe to spend money on anything new and too proud to admit he need to took a size Small in tops.

These days, I help him pick most of his clothes - fitted jeans and cords, fitted v neck jumpers and cardigan in colours that suit him such as purple, dark green and burgundy (before practically everything he had was blue) plain tshirts and fitted shirts...hmmm, did I say fitted?! Wearing the right size makes such a big difference though and everyone always comments on how great he looks!

ShatnersBassoon · 14/12/2013 16:14

DH is about the same age. He always wears a collar, thinks anything without is too young and scruffy for him.

msmiggins · 14/12/2013 16:16

My OH has to dress as smart as a pin for work, white shirt, tie, sensible suit and shoes- works in a legal environment.
At weekends he dresses for comfort, polo shirts, soft cotton shirts,.chinos, outdoor trousers, zipped sweatshirts and an oilskin coat.
He doesn't own a pair of jeans and rarely wears a t shirt.
Lots of his weekend trousers have hems hanging down, even raggety at the bottom, he doesn't really care.He detests label or branded clothes- he feels no need to make an impression when he isn't at work.

My DH has perfected what we like to call his 'utility dad' look Grin Merrell hiking shoes, cords or jeans, a surfy tshirt and a north face fleece. Or just biking gear.

On really special occasions he might break out the checked shirt.

webwiz · 14/12/2013 16:23

DH (47) wears a suit for work so he is a bit of a slob at the weekend. Some of his weekend stuff is so scruffy I have to wrestle it off him and throw it away. He has jeans, a tshirt and a hoodie on today so he looks fairly respectable. He hates clothes shopping with a passion.

BackforGood · 14/12/2013 16:23

dh is a few days off 42, too.
Spends most of his free time doing mountain, outdoor, camping stuff, so his clothes reflect that (literally sometimes, there seems to be a lot of hi-vis involved).
Other than that, has taken to wearing some horrendous check shirts with either jeans or those thick cottony material trousers Sometimes polo shirts.

Not much helpfor you, methinks Grin
