My DP is 42 and is having a midlife crisis style overhaul. He lives in jeans and t-shirts and wants something more fashionable but still suitable for his age.

What does your DP/DH wear?

For balance and giggle purposes....

My dh is 26. He looks almost exactly like the lead singer of all American rejects in the gives you he'll video. He is covered in tattoos and people often stop us in the street and either think he is the lead singer of AAR (as above) or just ask what band he is in! :)

He wears women's size 8 (!!!) Skinny jeans from primark in black because they are the only jeans that are indie rock band style enough... He asked another bloke where he got his jeans from and this is where this started. He goes in there and buys black ones and chats to all the women who all find it amusing and say they wish they were a size 8 too :) I find it hilarious :)

He wears mainly band t shirts and checked flannel shirts from urban outfitters or asos mens and if he is fancying a nice winter jumper he will go to top man or cheap Mondays.

He wears converse or big black boots.

I think he is really sexy, which is good as I am married to him :)

As for me... I'm a size 16 and have absolutely zero interest in fashion beyond jeans that fit me and nice converse. I guess we balance each other out !

He still dresses like a skater boy - jeans, DCs, hoodies, shirts from surf shops.

newfavouritething · 14/12/2013 18:00

Ancient cotton traders short sleeved rugby shirts. Won't wear anything long sleeved, and have problems getting jeans to fit his rugby thighs (seeing a theme here??). The only ones that seem to fit at the moment are the Tesco value jeans, but they look it! Trousers are always tricky to buy - to get them big enough in the leg there's too much at the waist and makes him look huge. It's the same with shirts - acres of spare fabric because of a big neck size. Which is pretty much why he sticks to the jeans/rugby shirt combo. He's 45 - how much longer do you think he can do it? Is there an age limit on jeans? I've never really thought about it.

QueenStromba · 14/12/2013 18:00

Not my DP, but I saw a bloke on the tube the other day who I thought looked very smart. He was in dark blue straight legged jeans, a shirt with a v neck dark grey jumper over it, a black blazer, brown loafers and a scarf.

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 14/12/2013 18:04

Your DH sounds awesome Fairylea if I could play dress up, I'd put my DP in something like that but he's more interested in smart casual look!

He's just had a browse on this thread and is now doing some online shopping, I knew Mumsnet would do me proud Xmas Grin

My dp used to be quite chavvy, he's now a proper snob about anything chavvy and now dresses quite preppy.

Around the house and going to work (he's a chef) he wears trackie bottoms and hoodys.

But when he actually makes a bit of an effort, jeans, shirts (nice checked ones), and either smart black shoes or smart trainers.

Lavenderhoney · 14/12/2013 18:06

Very smart suits and shirts, shoes, very well groomed all week.

Then the weekend comes and he pulls out the first thing he lays hands on,
And the contrast is such he doesn't get recognised by any work people. Its as though he went into a shop, asked what would look shit and bought it. Plus its all really really old and falling apart. And he doesn't shave.

Then its a work morning and he appears looking like a bloke off a Tom ford advert.

Felix90 · 14/12/2013 18:07

newfavouritething my OH has the same problem. Massive thighs from playing rugby and if jeans fit him on the thighs they are huge on the waist. He seems to do well in TK Maxx for jeans as they always have weird sizes, so may be worth a look!

Lovecat · 14/12/2013 18:10

DH is 48 and has the rugby thigh problem. When he's not in a smart work suit he tends to slob it up in sweatpants and rugby shirts. If we're going out he has either jeans or a pair of 'smart' loose cut jeans-style trousers in very dark grey that he teams with converse and a stripey or check shirt. Sometimes with a t-shirt underneath, depending on how hot it's likely to be/how smart the venue.

Left to his own devices he'd live in sweatpants and a very old t-shirt he's had since University.

Taffeta · 14/12/2013 18:11

Jeans or moleskin trousers, polo shirts, jumpers, fleeces. Quite a lot of his stuff is Fat Face, bought by me.

DownstairsMixUp · 14/12/2013 18:24

The braces look fab on him ManAlive make a change to belts! He has black and red DM's and they look good dressed up and down really. He loves his red ones so much he has said he is wearing them on our wedding day! Grin

NotYouNaanBread · 14/12/2013 18:40

Skinny jeans, boots, jumper, leather jacket & skinny scarf if he's feeling rock & roll (all All Saints), skinny tweed suit with white shirt & knitted tie if he feels preppy, Jack Wills if he's going rowing.

He is vair hipster, my DH.

waves at anyone I've outed myself to

QueenofLouisiana · 14/12/2013 18:43

Cords, shirts, v-neck jumpers, boots. Shirts are usually stripy or checked. He is currently very attached to his macaroni from weird fish. Never wears joggers or trainers unless he is playing basketball.

BelaLugosisShed · 14/12/2013 18:46

DH is 48 (just) and wears either lee or levi jeans or craghopper walking trouser/chino things with Abercrombie / Hollister/Aeropostale /sci-fi t-shirts with a selection of zip neck fleece tops by Jack wolfskin / craghopper ( I swear he has one in every colour) or nice chunky jumpers, either new balance walking boots , One true saxon boat shoes or he has some lovely Italian leather chelsea boots and some Aldo leather biker boots for the winter, Converse or Vans in the summer. In the summer he wears short sleeve checked shirts over a t-shirt with long shorts or linen trousers .
He's particular about coats and jackets and has some vintage tweed ones, a big padded Dare2b winter coat and a vintage racing driver style lightweight canvas jacket.
Suit-wise, he has a very nice Jeff Banks dark charcoal suit with quite vivid coloured shirts in purpley shades.

That said, he's sat here watching tron wearing ( Primark special) skull and crossbones fleece jama bottoms and an ancient disney t-shirt Hmm

It's not fair that men can wear pretty much the same stuff as when they were 25 and look ok, I'd just look plain ridiculous wearing similar clothes to DD.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 14/12/2013 18:48

Dp currently has a batman dressing gown on. Yesterday it was a onzie with a christmas tree on the front.

so fashionable. so cool. Wink

DirtyDancingCleanLiving · 14/12/2013 18:48

Df wears suits to work with the company tie.

He's a t-shirt/shirt and jeans type when not in work mainly. Either 'smart' trainers or timberlands, flip flops in summer.

If we're roughing it and going for a country walk or something, it will be a hoodie and combats.

He's really not into fashion at all, which is my preference. I like a typical 'boyish' man - one who slings on something and still manages to look good, and takes approx 3 minutes to get ready for a night out after a shower.

I find men who look like they've really made an effort with their clothing or are dressed in high fashion really unattractive and usually a bit feminine...not my type at all.
