My DP is 42 and is having a midlife crisis style overhaul. He lives in jeans and t-shirts and wants something more fashionable but still suitable for his age.

What does your DP/DH wear?

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 14/12/2013 16:23

For the record, it is my DP who wants to change his style and asked for my suggestions.

Seeing a lot of cords and chinos around! I'll put that out there.

DH is far more fussy about what he wears than I am.

I can happily wear the same old outfit many times. He will fling shirts and t shirts onto the bed, and shouting that he has nowt to wear.. sigh.

anyway - so for business - suits, shirt and tie. Other times jeans, long sleeved polo shirts, casual shirts with a tanktop or slim cardigan.

He's never totally casual. i.e. joggers and t shirts - unless he is taking part in sport..

Oh, he is 48 btw

princessalbert · 14/12/2013 16:30

Chinos are good - as long as they aren't' too 'American Dad' style :)

Stevie77 · 14/12/2013 16:30

My DH is of a similar ages and dresses really well if I may be the judge of that - buys all his own clothes too!

Jeans (mainly slim Levi's, 511 I think but can't remember for sure). He's got those in a range of colours and finishes. Then polo t-shirts, RL but also like Gap ones or other t-shirts. Long sleeve t-shirts or casual shirts over plain t-shirts. Sometimes he wears a thin jumper or a retro tracksuit top.

On feet he wears anything from Converse or other retro trainers to shoes (Camper, Timberland boots). HTH

fanoftheinvisibleman · 14/12/2013 16:30

Dh is 41. He also lives in jeans out of work. Usually teamed with a checked shirt or polo shirt, jumper over the top if cold. He wears odd T shirt too. Brand wise is generally Ben Sherman, Pretty Green, Fred Perry, Penguin and the odd bit of burberry/aquascutum left over from years gone by.

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 14/12/2013 16:32

im not alot of help. My DH wears either jeans or combats with baggy tshirts and a hoody or coat.

He has no style and thats why i love him. Hes a gamer geek lol

Rollergirl1 · 14/12/2013 16:39

DH is 41 and likes to think he's pretty stylish. He wears shirts and smart slim-fit trousers for work. Out of work he either wears jeans or skinny chinos with a shirt or polo-style tshirt. He also wears quite a lot of vneck jumpers with shirt or tshirt underneath. Shoe wise it's either trainers (always adidas) or brogue boots in varying colours. DH has ridiculous amounts of clothes. I think he has about 30 pairs of jeans, about 10 different coats, 50 odd shirts. It's crazy!

Balistapus · 14/12/2013 16:43

My DP, 34, wears a look I call Clerkenwell Architect. T-shirt; fine, Italian style merino jumper; very dark blue Diesel jeans all topped off with just the right length of beard. Footwear is dark brown or black suede Etnies.

DownstairsMixUp · 14/12/2013 16:46

My dp is 28. He always looks smart to me. He wears long sleeve button down shirts a lot with v neck jumps or vest tops over the top, skinny jeans with Dr Martens, nice belts or braces to match what he is wearing. He has two coats, a crombie for when it's cold and a harrington for when it's not so bad. He shaves his head so wears beenie hats or flat caps a lot to. I think he always looks lovely :)

DownstairsMixUp · 14/12/2013 16:47

Oh he has quite a few polo t shirts to, fred perry's and things like that mainly.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 14/12/2013 16:51

dark brown or black suede Etnies

I love my dp in these, I dunno why.

He recently got some Osiris shoe/boot things with fur in that I would wear if they were a size4.

AuntySib · 14/12/2013 16:52

DH and adult DSs all wear jeans, t-shirt, shirt on top. DS1 will wear a hoody with a t shirt under, but not DS2 or DH. If we are going anywhere where DH has to be smarter, then a jacket over a stripey shirt and dark jeans.
None of them owns trousers other than jeans.

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2013 16:53

Jeans or combat trousers. T-Shirts or jumpers, occasional hoody

catgirl1976 · 14/12/2013 16:53

Or chinos

Timberland style boots or converse trainers

HECTheHeraldAngelsSing · 14/12/2013 17:05

Suits for work and jeans or casual trousers with casual shirts and maybe a jumper if its cold. Not exactly cutting edge fashion but he's comfy. He doesnt care what he wears. It's me that tells him you cant wear that with THAT! Go and change!
I know. Control freak. Grin

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 14/12/2013 17:13

Ooh braces sounds fun downstairsmixup

He's like the idea of a jumper with shirt underneath!

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 14/12/2013 17:22

Grin I am finding it really hard to imagine people being married to someone who wears cords and polo shirts. I realise I am the one who is odd here but I don't actually know any men who wear "grown-up" clothes Blush

DP has a million software branded and/or promotional t-shirts and about 8 pairs of jeans. He pulls one of each out of the pile randomly in the morning and wears that.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 14/12/2013 17:46

DH is 45

Almost always wears jeans. Decent ones. A shirt. Striped or block colour and the occasional check. Only a suit and tie for funerals. But never very dressed down either. A nice sweater. Round neck. Lambswool or cashmere. Proper footwear. Camel boots or something leather. Never trainers. And a coat of some sort when necessary. He has a wool peacoat. And some waxed thing like a Drizabone (not a Barbour).

In summer jeans or very occasionally shorts. With cotton or linen shirts. Rarely t shirts. Never chinos. Canvas deck shoes or leather walking sandals if really hot.

He always looks fairly presentable. I buy him things from time to time but don't have much influence on his style which hasn't changed in forever.

foreverondiet · 14/12/2013 17:48

Never wears jeans. Wears chino type trousers at weekends, with casual shirts (and maybe jumper too in winter) or t shirts with collars in summer. Suit (wool) trousers to work with smart shirts.

MrsUptight · 14/12/2013 17:50

My DH likes Jack & Jones....he's 41.

grovel · 14/12/2013 17:52

Chinos, cotton shirts, sweater, docksiders. Fairly classic look which is a bit preppy on the young. Which DH isn't.

FracturedViewOfLife · 14/12/2013 17:52

DP is 37 and wears jeans and normal shirt with a jacket usually. He has started wearing more Fat Face casual shirts recently though.

When I met him he wore suits all the time. He had awesome suits. Now he works from home though so no need Sad He went through a period of living in a dressing gown when he first started until I hid it under the stairs so any clothes are an improvement.

NoComet · 14/12/2013 17:56

Cords or chinos (generally navy) and a rugby shirt in winter
(Hates jeans, never wore them even as a teen)

Polo shirt and lighter weight blue, brown or karki cotton trousers, unless it's shorts and tee shirt weather.

White (striped) shirt, tie, cheapest smart M&S black trousers (I've stopped buying suits, he trashed the trousers and never wore the jackets)

eurochick · 14/12/2013 17:57

Almost always jeans. Usually with a t-shirt, topped with a shirt/fleece/jumper. He looks fairly stylish in a low key way most of the time.

He's 39, btw.
