Aibu to think this is quite a snakey thing to do?

I work in a call centre, during Christmas to make it more fun we have a competition where the stats are set each day and the person who wins gets to pick an envelope which has a gift inside - ipads/xbox/tv etc.

Today was our teams day to be given a stat and see who won (there are 12 people in my team)

The stat was putting people on hold to a minimum. The winner was announced and it was the new guy at work who had 0% hold time. It was only when someone queried this that it was found out he had been cheating by using the "mute" button instead of hold.

We're quite a close team and I would have been happy for anyone to win and I was happy for the new guy, but now I found out he cheated I feel like hes tried to screw us over for his own benefit and it was a pretty snakey thing to do.

Aibu?

He probably wouldn't have know though? He probably didn't intend to screw you over. I suggest you ask how long he has used the mute button in total and take that as an equivalent hold button

I worked in a call centre once as a supervisor and a member of my team wasn't taking many calls per day but didn't have high call times either.. We were a bit confused until I spent the day stalking her and she wasn't hanging up after the customer had and just sat there for up to half an hour until she bothered to take the next call. Everyone else was rushed off their feet!

I feel your pain and I think he cheated and should be disqualified...

Kikibee · 13/12/2013 21:54

With prizes like that then yep, it is really sneaky!

Pepperandhotmilk · 13/12/2013 21:57

What happened? Did he lose the prize??

QueenOfConeyIsland · 13/12/2013 23:04

He probably wouldn't have know though?

He did know this isn't allowed. It's been brought up with him twice before with more senior members of staff.

Mute is for coughing and sneezing etc thats it.

Achy Grin Grin

sykadelic15 · 14/12/2013 04:13

Definitely sneaky. Did he lose the prize and the next person get it? Some people are just out for themselves. Seems like he's one of those.

Chottie · 14/12/2013 04:32

Sneaky and underhand. He definitely did not earn that prize.

Whatisaweekend · 14/12/2013 09:25

So he knew this wasn't allowed? That's appalling - he cheated and should definitely be stripped of his prize.

YANBU, he had been told he wasn't allowed to use the "mute" button instead of hold and did it anyway, essentially to defraud your employer into giving him an expensive prize, they should investigate. Most call centres deal with people's confidential information and I wouldn't trust someone so dishonest to do that.

Poledra · 16/12/2013 12:21

He's a cheat, and I would hope that your bosses would strip him of the prize and give it to the real winner.

helenthemadex · 16/12/2013 12:28

they should not be giving the prize to him thats totally unfair he cheated
