to think using mooncup in a small office with a frequently used loo is a bit gross?

I've certainly been educated about the benefits of mooncup and reuseable sanitary supplies on here over the last few weeks. What I fail to understand is how this is remotely practical in an office with a small public toilet. We have separate mens and womens loos, but the female loos have two stalls and a shared washbasin area. The loos get reasonably high traffic as we often have company wide training in our Boardroom. So seriously moon cup users - how do you manage not being caught washing out said device in the sinks? Sorry if this is a bit gross but would like to hear how others manage before seeing whether this is something I could consider using if I can get over the ick factor.

I don't wash it out. I empty it, wipe it, re insert. If I were a more fastidious person I would take a bottle of water in with me & use that to rinse it out.

lilyaldrin · 13/12/2013 21:30

I wouldn't wash it every time - a wipe with a tissue is fine. If you are very bothered then take a bottle of water into the cubicle with you.

Actually I rarely have to empty it during the day.

ILoveRacnoss · 13/12/2013 21:30

Just wipe it :-)

MillyONaire · 13/12/2013 21:33

emoty and re-insert as others have advised. It's what you have to do in most public loos jut be sure to put loo paper in the loo before emptying (otherwise the blood sinks to the bottom of the bowl and is the devil to flush away!)

lessonsintightropes · 13/12/2013 21:34

Isn't it a bit manky reinserting without a rinse? I would also definitely be clocked bringing a bottle of water into the loo with me and whilst I don't think anyone would comment I think people would think it was a bit weird.

Its a little tricky but not at all impossible. I bleed heavily and it is all a bit Confused but I love my Mooncup I can't bare to use tampons anymore.
I carry a little bottle of water and some wet wipes. It's fine. Smile
I used my Mooncup whilst travelling in a very third world country and had to occasionally use pit toilets. It wasn't great but i got used to it.

Flisspaps · 13/12/2013 21:37

Why would it be manky? You're putting something into your vagina that was in your vagina mere seconds ago. If you'd left it out for a while, dropped it on the floor or something then maybe...

IThoughtThat · 13/12/2013 21:38

I really, really don't think people would care if they saw you carrying a little bottle to the bathroom with you. I bet most people wouldn't clock why and even if they did then it would probably be another Mooncup user.

CrohnicallySick · 13/12/2013 21:39

I don't change my MoonCup at work- it will last till I get home. I work short days though, only out the house max 8-9 hours.

lessonsintightropes · 13/12/2013 21:39

Because even with a wipe with tissue (if water rinsing isn't possible) there would be urm dried, potentially up to 7 hour old fluids on it - and these smell a bit gross when exposed to the air?

I am genuinely trying to get how to use it but as is probably obvious from my wording having a bit of a mental block about it!

Much less yuck than dealing with tampons/pads IMO.

BettyBotter · 13/12/2013 21:42

wet wipes

or the disabled loo with the wash basin in the cubicle

IThoughtThat · 13/12/2013 21:44

I use one of the littlest water bottles. I think they are 250ml. It's all you need to rinse the Mooncup.

If you were really nervous you could take disposable gloves Grin. I do get blood on my hands as I have cut the tail off my Mooncup (sorry TMI Blush ) but it would be easily prevented with the gloves.

ellipsis · 13/12/2013 21:44

Nothing is gross, nothing is dried, nothing smells. It just needs a wipe.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/12/2013 21:44

If you use a mooncup there's a good chance you wouldn't need to empty it during the day anyway - they hold way more than tampons/towels and you can get bucket sized ones...

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/12/2013 21:47

Yes. Mine is definitely not smelly at all, ever. If there's smell, there's a problem needs investigating imo!

MooncupGoddess · 13/12/2013 21:49

It's fine, really. Just wash your hands before you go into the cubicle, empty it down the loo, wipe with loo roll and reinsert. Takes seconds.

IThoughtThat · 13/12/2013 21:55

Oh dear, I hope you lot who don't have to change your Mooncup all day don't get too freaked out when you get older and have to change your Mooncup every hour or so. Sad Sad Sad.

I wish I had a Mooncup when I was younger.

princessalbert · 13/12/2013 21:56

I don't rinse out on every change. A wipe with loo roll I'd fine.

As said up thread, it isn't even always necessary to change during the working day . I cam waif until I get home. So from 8.00-6.00 for me.

Better than the san pro bin which doesn't get replaced frequently enough!

MichaelFinnigan · 13/12/2013 21:59

I don't empty it during the day. I do it before i leave and when I get home

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/12/2013 21:59

Man. Alive.

The san pro bin at work was my main moon cup motivation. I actually get a bit of sick in my mouth at the smell. Either boaksome scentedness or just humming, mouldering used tampons and towels.

Way worse imo.

TwinklesTheXmasFairy · 13/12/2013 21:59

I have one of the travel spray bottle, fill it with water, spray wipe with loo roll and reinsert. Very rare I have to empty at placement though.

Best thing I have purchased in a while... This is only my second cycle with it and it is- hope i am not being melodramatic- life changing!!!

goodasitgets · 13/12/2013 21:59

Well I went in work toilets before and found an unflushed toilet Angry which was rank
I go in, empty mooncup, wipe, reinsert, flush, check no mess, leave cubicle
It doesn't smell of anything, it's probably out for 60 seconds max

OddFodd · 13/12/2013 22:00

I've only ever changed mine mornings and evenings and I'm in peri-menopause so you don't necessarily get really heavy periods when you're old :)

lessonsintightropes · 13/12/2013 22:02

Thanks for all the advice. I might give it a whirl!
