to think using mooncup in a small office with a frequently used loo is a bit gross?

I've certainly been educated about the benefits of mooncup and reuseable sanitary supplies on here over the last few weeks. What I fail to understand is how this is remotely practical in an office with a small public toilet. We have separate mens and womens loos, but the female loos have two stalls and a shared washbasin area. The loos get reasonably high traffic as we often have company wide training in our Boardroom. So seriously moon cup users - how do you manage not being caught washing out said device in the sinks? Sorry if this is a bit gross but would like to hear how others manage before seeing whether this is something I could consider using if I can get over the ick factor.

At work I just pour it out in the lol and put it back in. I rinse at home though.
If I saw someone rinsing a moon cup though in the sinks I wouldn't care. It gets washed away, no issue.

I looked on ebay to buy a new one, I take it you are not all talking about these?!

It's strange how the answers change on here.

The last topic about this was coupled with the issue of hand washing.

Most people said they emptied and rinsed their mooncup in the sink before re-inserting. Yuck.

And rinsing under the flush water?! What?! Would you use that water to brush your teeth?

Hahahahaha let's hope not!

Thants · 14/12/2013 13:43

These horror stories are bullshit. They don't smell unless you properly sniff it close and then you rinse it and smell is gone! Much less smelly than pads or tampons.
I can't even work out how you would get it in so far that you had to fist yourself to get it out. They only go just inside, nowhere near as deep as say a tampon.
Using any kind of internal sanitary wear when you have bacterial vaginosis is going to irritate and make it worse. Use pads until you have cleared up any infection! Isn't that obvious?

Rinsing cup with toilet water will mean other peoples poo and bleach going in you! Don't do that. Either just wipe, take a water bottle or rinse at the sink!

Jayne put it this way, if they are then there is no way one of those is going to fit even after 5 pregnancies Blush

octopus Xmas Grin

Try these instead.

The soft cups, the first the the eBay page, are a completely different kettle of fish to the mooncup style menstrual
Cup. I tried them once, and they are really messy. But good if you really need to have sex on your period without there being blood ( which I did at the time!)

octopusinasantasack · 14/12/2013 15:25

Mines ta, that's what I also found and ordered :) I had a mooncup years ago but stopped using it (no real reason, just forgot to take it on holiday one year) so I've just ordered one of the £7 ones, I hope it works as well.

octopusinasantasack · 14/12/2013 15:27

hooochy is the quality not so good?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/12/2013 15:29

AFAIK the softcups are much more like a diaphragm than a menstrual cup. They are also disposable.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 14/12/2013 16:14

Aaa I just remembered these sponge things I used a couple of times.

They were like little sponges, you can have sex whilst using them which came in handy when me and DP were 'courting' and booked hotels..

Until this one time I forgot I had one in.

I won't go into that it was disgusting.

Iamsparklyknickers · 14/12/2013 16:26

The softcups have, well a soft cup to catch every thing, it reminds me of the stuff they wrap crusty bread in. They don't stay ridged and sit right up round your cervix like a diaphragm.

They're fine while they're in and do work well for having sex, but you take it out and it kind of spills/squirts as the cup un-crinkles. Not something I was ever able to get the hang of without needing access to a private sink straight away... you don't get that with a menstrual cup ime!

fluffyraggies · 14/12/2013 17:46

Ah, i have tried soft-cups and thought they were the same thing as moons! I used them for TTC, not menstruation. I found soft cups quite tricky to get in and quite ... an adventure to get out.

So the moon cups are a rigid cup then, yes? And where does it sit? If it's not far up then surely you can feel it?

goodasitgets · 14/12/2013 18:12

Sort of flexible plastic stuff but yes more rigid. Sits low down (it's like an upside down bell) and the bottom bit sits almost at the vaginal entrance

ThereIsNoEleventeen · 14/12/2013 18:24

I used to work in an office with about 6 or 7 other girls. As often happens we all got our periods at the same time, about 2 weeks later the sanitary van man would come to collect the bin...the smell was gross, especially in summer!!

Every now and again someone would forget that the plumbing wasn't up to having tampons flushed down the loo so the plumber would have to be called (more gross smells).

Just imagine if everyone had used mooncups...(I know that not everyone gets on with them obviously) .

LydiaLunches · 14/12/2013 18:26

I am loving my shecup, soft and no stalk at all. I am the only person I know who has lost 2 mooncups but I am glad I had cause to try another brand as it is so much comfier.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 14/12/2013 18:34

If you need more capacity meluna do a bucket size.

revolvenotevolve · 14/12/2013 18:48

Not sure if this has been mentioned or experienced by others but I find that when I empty mine in the loo it often slightly stains the bottom of the loo - I flush immediately but often it's a couple of flushes before the redness has gone!!!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 14/12/2013 19:31

I've got an XL Meluna and I've not even have kids yet Blush
Capacious fanjo alert.

ThereIsNoEleventeen · 14/12/2013 19:39

You need to put some loo paper down first revol, then you only need to flush once.
