Periods just returned after a long time pregnant then breast feeding and I now find my old failsafes stink. I have bought a new pack of "simply fits" which don't seem to be as obnoxious as I was convinced the smell was so vile that someone would comment on it! Where has this idea come from and does anyone think it's a good one?

Could you have an infection that is causing the obnoxious smell?

Branleuse · 13/12/2013 19:36

i use scented liners sometimes. I didnt know you could get towels too.

Its not a smell id wipe on my neck as perfume or nuffing, I thought it was fairly light.

Methe · 13/12/2013 19:36

Thumbs down from me. I'm quite happy for my genitals to smell like genitals.

MabelSideswipe · 13/12/2013 19:36

They gave me an horrific allergic reaction. Won't go into details but I needed a trip to the GP it was that bad.

DisappointedHorse · 13/12/2013 19:37

No, packaged thrush and an overwhelming message of "hey ladies, your fannies stink"

Waggamamma · 13/12/2013 19:37

I have always used 'always' have tried other brands but none are as good, but I really wish they weren't scented. There's no need for it, my period doesn't smell!

Why did they change them, they were fine as they were!

soimpressed · 13/12/2013 19:38

Hate them.

Branleuse · 13/12/2013 19:38

Its not always because people are worried about genitals smelling like genitals.

A lot of people use these products because of light incontinence and dont want to risk smelling like piss

hth

Shente · 13/12/2013 19:39

Norude - I don't think so, it was more very cheap perfume than anything I might have produced and the unscented one is - well - unscented!

YANBU! and No, I don't like them.
I break out in an itch just thinking about them same as scented loo rolls.

bundaberg · 13/12/2013 19:41

no they're vile!

I can smell it while I'm wearing them, which means that other people must be able to.

i can't wait for someone to ask me "what's that perfume you're wearing" so i can inform them that actually it's a sanitary towel. not.

Owzat · 13/12/2013 19:42

YANBU.
Afterchildren, I found my bits were a lot more sensitive to these things than before.

In fact I found them so horrible I now use cloth ones, which are luvverly! Smile

Binkyridesagain · 13/12/2013 19:43

Products that are designed for incontinence don't smell floral fresh so its nothing to do with not wanting to smell like piss.

Some unknown decided that sanitary products needed an new avenue, so decided to tell women that their fanjos stink, but they have the solution. Floral fresh prettied patterned sanitary wear. you might itch but at least you'll smell clean.

Norudeshitrequired · 13/12/2013 19:43

Oh well it's obviously the towels then.
Why do they think that women want some artificial smelling shite next to their lady bits? I didn't even realise that you could get scented ones. Surely all that perfumed stuff is a one way trip to thrush city?
Sorry that I'm not being very helpful, I'm just trying to understand the warped logic of sanitary towel manufacturers.

BistoBear · 13/12/2013 19:44

I also had an allergic reaction to scented panty liners, ouch! I'm feeling itchy just thinking about them!

Methe · 13/12/2013 19:44

It's because they are designed by men.

bundaberg · 13/12/2013 19:45

we should forward this thread to Always.

i used them for years. have stopped now!

EdithWeston · 13/12/2013 19:46

I loathe scented towels, and have changed brands from Always (most of range scented) to Bodyform (most of range unscented), and discovered that Bodyform are actually better.

WhispersOfWickedness · 13/12/2013 19:46

YANBU, I have had to change brands because they suddenly started using a very heavy scent, it smelt disgusting! Have found unscented in a different brand now and it is much kinder on my nose Smile

MrsCakesPremonition · 13/12/2013 19:48

I don't want to emit a waft of faux-floral scent every time I move.

Horrid things.

Bodyform all the way when it comes to pads.

FryOneFatChristmasGoose · 13/12/2013 19:52

The scent is because they've decided to try new marketing ideas to get a bigger share of the market.

First convince women they smell on their period, then convince them that they have the solution: expensive scented san-pro.

The thing is, people do get worried about body odour, and the marketing people have tapped into that.

Apparently, in the US, you can now get scented tampons. A recipe for thrush, no doubt.

No thanks, plain stuff for me, and warm water's all I need to keep clean there. I'm now contemplating switching to a mooncup.

DawnOfTheDee · 13/12/2013 19:53

YABU. I wouldn't be able to use them as emergency air fresheners if they weren't scented. Smell of curry lingering from last night...? Just slap a few of those babies on my wall with their handy sticky backs and once more my abode (and foo foo) is floral fresh!

Thank you Always-pointless-and-unnecessary-new-product-development man!

cuttingpicassostoenails · 13/12/2013 19:57

Saves me a fortune on Chanel No5.

vtechjazz · 13/12/2013 19:59

Women should wear placards proclaiming them as unclean if they refuse to do the decent thing and perfume their nethers during this disgusting time.

MrsCakesPremonition · 13/12/2013 20:00

I'm also cross that Vagasil have their awful adverts all over the TV at the moment. Basically women's genitals are sweaty and smelly and you need to use Vagasil. Crap.
