My stepmum posted a picture of my dad's arse this morning Hmm Loads of her friends commenting "Ooh tasty!" Confused

Dad often posts comedy boob pictures or accidentally links stuff he's looked at on other sites, most notable was the "adult video" Hmm

In addition my 11 year old half brother has just got his first facebook account so he can see everything they post too. They don't seem to realise (or maybe they don't care?!) but I feel like commenting on the photo saying "PLEASE LEARN HOW TO USE FB PRIVACY, MY EYES!!!!!"

AIBU?

Argh! Grin

Yes direct them to the privacy settings!

puntasticusername · 13/12/2013 09:27

YANBU.

In addition, point out that a lot of the kind of stuff they seem to like to look at and share will be ridden with malware, so they are putting their own and their friends' computer safety at risk by viewing and circulating it.

You might also like to mention that 11 years old is too young for a FB account. Minimum age is 13, so they have allowed him to lie about his age.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 13/12/2013 09:33

Honestly I have given up on mentioning anything to do with age controls, DB has an iPad with no parental restrictions, I tried to explain about age restrictions on games for the xbox etc but they were all, oh, they can't be that bad.

I agree, 11yo is far too young. He is constantly sharing those pictures of somebody who's really injured with a whole sob story of "My dad raped me and dragged a cheese grater over my face while he was killing my dog and using the dog's body to injure me even more. I can't pay my medical bills but facebook are donating 60 cents for every share!" or "Watch out, if you see somebody flashing their lights at you it's REALLY A KILLER"

I redirected him to Snopes. But seriously, those kind of things would have really upset and worried me at 11 and that's not to mention all of the depraved porn etc that's on the internet.

Bertie, Grin I shouldn't have laughed but your sob story with the cheese grater was v good.

I would definitely make a comment in a funny/cutting way (on the picture of your dad's bum??!) to get a message across - but to be honest I can't begin to imagine what it's like, I would be shamed Blush if it were my dad!

What a modern dilemma!

monicalewinski · 13/12/2013 09:57

Re your brother, it is too young - my oldest is boy is 11 and I live in dread of him accessing stuff like that. I try my hardest to be as all over that sort of thing as I can be.

puntasticusername · 13/12/2013 10:03

Oh no, he falls for all the like farming crap too? That's possibly my single biggest hate about fb.

Leo posting links like this to his wall until he gets the message:

www.hoax-slayer.com/like-farming-scams.shtml

puntasticusername · 13/12/2013 10:04

Bah, "keep", not "Leo".

NotYoMomma · 13/12/2013 12:23

I had to hack into my dads fb to delete a post. apparently he hsd been trying to view a woman with 'massive boobs' on a rollercoaster Confused Hmm

and it told all his mates and me!

we have had a lesson

also a lesson about that the antivirus actually is and if it tells you in big red letters that something is wrong, it probably is

he asked about Windows 8 last week. after I picked myself up off the floor laughing I forbid him getting it

Sallyingforth · 13/12/2013 12:28

It's very wrong to teach an 11 year old to lie about his age, especially to let him be exposed to the crap that is available on FB.
Will he be lying about his age to get access to cigarettes, alcohol, porn?
