She wants to cook one of these

I am helping her on Christmas day to cook the dinner. She has gone to a lot of trouble planning out all the veg and accompaniments which all sound delicious. But I really would like something a little more special than that. It isn't even an issue of cost! I have offered to buy a proper joint of meat and cook it. She said we will discuss it later but I don't want to leave it too long or we wont be able to order one. So I am going to order a boned and rolled turkey breast which can still be bunged in the oven but will taste much nicer.

Yuk! YANBU!

gamerchick · 12/12/2013 22:31

yeah I'm with you.. those are for when you want to cook an emergency dinner. they're nice enough but not for Christmas.

Instead of getting her back up.. why don't you get a joint of beef to go with it or some other meat. Nothing like 2 different types of meat on christmas day.

ScarletLady02 · 12/12/2013 22:32

I'm a vegetarian and even I know YANBU!

puntasticusername · 12/12/2013 22:32

Ew. That sounds absolutely revolting. YANBU.

NinjaBunny · 12/12/2013 22:33

Ooooo, those are minging!

And I really wouldn't touch anything made by Bernard Matthews.

You can buy a naice chicken for a fiver.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 12/12/2013 22:35

This is one of the many things I hate about Christmas.

Can't people just enjoy it without all the blooming moaning.

Amy106 · 12/12/2013 22:35

Oh, yes. Your idea is much better!

RedLondonBus · 12/12/2013 22:36

Not sure you can 'refuse to let' a grown adult do something?

Cook your own meat

makingdoo · 12/12/2013 22:37

Nooooooo YANBU! Why does she want this??

AdoraBell · 12/12/2013 22:37

YANBU.

If she is thinking in terms of a smaller amount of meat she could do a turkey breast joint instead, or a chicken as suggested by pp. Or anything really, other than one of those Envy

Goldmandra · 12/12/2013 22:39

Can't people just enjoy it without all the blooming moaning.

To be fair to the OP, I don't think I could enjoy one of those on any day of the year. They are like the pre-chewed gunk that cheap chicken nuggets are filled with.

OP, YANBU.

choobie · 12/12/2013 22:40

I couldn't cook my own meet, that would look snobby. She is going to so much effort with everything else and has just kind of gone "oh that will do" with the meat. It seems a real shame. I know she wanted that because she can just stick it in the oven. Well if I got the boned rolled turkey breast from our local farm shop she could do exactly the same. Its all prepared and ready.

I'm not moaning, it just seems a shame. She said she wants the dinner to be special. My other sister is on wine duty and has bought some lovely posh wine which we would never usually have, other sister is bringing really nice pudding. That would kind of be a real anti climax.

Confused Why would anyone want that? If she really wants simple and cheap, even regular turkey breast fillets from the supermarket for £3 would be better! But you can't exactly 'refuse' her, she can do as she pleases. Just buy something else and let her get on with her meat imitation.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 12/12/2013 22:43

Link doesn't work for me. What is it?

HyvaPaiva · 12/12/2013 22:43

Blush cross-post OP, sorry!

choobie · 12/12/2013 22:44

a processed turkey roll thing from Bernard Mathews.

NinjaBunny · 12/12/2013 22:44

Maybe you misunderstood and she's buying it as a naice treat for the cat?

ShylaMcClaus · 12/12/2013 22:47

"Pre-chewed gunk"

Do you have any pets?

Caitlin17 · 12/12/2013 22:47

I wouldn't eat anything from Bernard Matthews.

LineRunner · 12/12/2013 22:49

I think I'd have a bloody moan if I learned of plans to feed me the mashed up arseholes of abused chickens.

cerealqueen · 12/12/2013 22:50

YANBU. It is £2 for a reason - it will be foul.

LineRunner · 12/12/2013 22:50

Can someone go organic, and offer to provide an organic contribution?

rookietherednosedreindeer · 12/12/2013 22:53

YANBU - I buy the pre stuffed turkey crown from M&S it just requires bunging in the oven as well. Go ahead and order it, I'd be really disappointed if I was served what she has picked for my turkey on Christmas day.

MrsMook · 12/12/2013 22:54

We had a Lidl 3 bird roast last year as there was just 3 adults. Something a bit special and different, but not excessive. DS had chicken drumsticks as the stuffing was unsuitable for his allergies.

miffybun73 · 12/12/2013 22:54

YANBU. Just no.
