She wants to cook one of these

I am helping her on Christmas day to cook the dinner. She has gone to a lot of trouble planning out all the veg and accompaniments which all sound delicious. But I really would like something a little more special than that. It isn't even an issue of cost! I have offered to buy a proper joint of meat and cook it. She said we will discuss it later but I don't want to leave it too long or we wont be able to order one. So I am going to order a boned and rolled turkey breast which can still be bunged in the oven but will taste much nicer.

MrsMook was the 3 bird roast nice? We have one of those for this year.

Binkyridesagain · 13/12/2013 08:32

It contains Milk, lactose intolerant person can't eat it.

Ingredients:

Turkey (80%), Water, Potato and Rice Starch, Stabilisers (Carrageenah, Sodium Di and Poly Phosphates), Potassium Chloride, Salt, Flavouring (Contain Lactose), Lactose.
Contain Milk.

Is that enough to stop her cooking it?

MoominsYonisAreScary · 13/12/2013 08:39

Yabu dp sometimes buys them, they are awful

HaveAFestiveLittleChristmas · 13/12/2013 08:39

Veggie sausages and 'Facon'? You'd have to roll them up yourself but I think could be enjoyable.

Work really well ! I do them every year for DD.

choobie · 13/12/2013 13:16

binky you are a genius! Incidentally my mums cats name is binky!

Will give the facon ones a try.

I spoke to my mum this morning and she is on board with the proper meat turkey! Yay.

Glad to be of help.

I hope you enjoy your proper meat Christmas lunch

rudolphdrops · 13/12/2013 13:29

I get one of those at MIL on Christmas Day Sad she does a lovely dinner but with pork and beef, both of which I don't like. So I get the plastic fowl BM turkey roll cooked just for me. It makes me sad, but Im not MIL bashing she does try and accommodate me and I'm very aware I am a fussy bugger. And I do make a delicious proper dinner at New Year for my side.

mattsmadmum · 13/12/2013 14:13

we had one of these one year and it was vile!

choobie · 13/12/2013 17:57

rudolphdrops could you not suggest she does you a chicken breast? You can buy them individually in Tesco, morrisons etc and she could just roast that with a few herbs. I have done it before for a roast dinner and its yummy!

Description:
Turkey breast roast formed from turkey breast with added water, soya protein and starch.

Oh my days...no, no, no

merrymouse · 13/12/2013 20:11

YWNBU. Glad she saw the light.

Jenijena · 13/12/2013 20:13

And this is exactly why I don't spend Christmas with my parents. Christmas lunch when my mum presented two of those (having realised that a fifth mouth - (now DH, then DP) wouldn't be fed by one). Poor DH really missed his mum's cooking. so did I

When I was a kid, there wasn't much cash and we are lots of that sort of meat, but we are all better off now - mum and dad eat out at least once a week-and at Christmas I think we can probably stretch a bit further. It's not a criticism of those who can't, just the fact. So I stay at home and cook my own food. egg and chips this year possibly (which has more flavour than turkey anyway)

GoEasyPudding · 13/12/2013 20:21

When I clicked the link there was a picture of a poorly kid in bed.

What you could do is when your mum is not looking.... sneak a chicken into the oven...or maybe a Turkey Crown. If she sees you, shout "TOO LATE!" and then tackle her to the floor.

Theodorous · 13/12/2013 20:29

The M&S turkey probably comes from the same place as Bernard's. Just has middle class packaging

FrauMoose · 13/12/2013 20:32

My Mum does horrible potato croquette things for Christmas dinner. (I don't eat with her on that day.)

AnUnearthlyChild · 13/12/2013 20:34

I came onto say those things usuallycontain lactose, but someone beat me to it.

AnUnearthlyChild · 13/12/2013 20:36

Theodoric, I worked in a processing factory as a student. It is true that m&s is made in the same Factory as the cheapest of cheap shit. But it categorically does not contain the same ingredients.

Theodorous · 14/12/2013 08:52

Sorry didn't mean that. I don't really mind about healthy eating, some of the nicest food is filthy. My issue is with the farming and slaughter processes used by those types of businesses.

kennyp · 14/12/2013 10:23

that's deeply disgusting. yuck. it's the sort of thing my mil would think is bloody wonderful, oh she with the tepid gravy.

looks utterly repellant. 80% turkey though??? thats much higher than i thought it'd be, but it still looks utterly vile.

VeganCow · 14/12/2013 21:22
