Painter decorator quote for master in a typical
1930'a semi.

Just to paint walls, woodwork and ceiling plus paper 1 wall- £300 they will supply gloss abd ceiling paint.
That's price for 2 of them working a day and 1/2.
We would have to strip and prep walls for them.

Seems a tad steep am I a cheep sake don't mind to be told I am just honest answers please- I in the midlands

I've no idea on cost. But agree I think I'd have been taken aback at first, however as been pointed out it's actually 3 days work as they are two of them.
And if be really surprised if you could really "paint walls, woodwork and ceiling plus paper 1 wall" in that time or even a week.

The ceiling makes it 6 walks to paint really as it's more difficult. Plus papering, that's a lot to get done in less than a weekend.

Send them to me! More than double that here (SE)

MotherOfChickens · 12/12/2013 19:43

I think that it's very reasonable. My decorator charges £100 a day plus materials (I'm in Yorkshire).

MrsChristmasBungle · 12/12/2013 19:44

I'm in the midlands, that sounds fair.

Bogeyface · 12/12/2013 19:45

Tbh I would never pay that much when I know that I could do it myself for a fraction of the cost and a bit of elbow grease! This is why I am a demon wallpaper hanger, I am too tight to pay anyone else to do it!

whatever5 · 12/12/2013 19:49

It sounds okay but it would probably be more economical for them to do two rooms. Then they can paint one room while the paint is drying in the other.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 12/12/2013 20:23

Sounds like you're getting a good deal to me. SE here, and our decorator charges in the region of £130 a day. Think he supplies a lot of the materials except the wall colour. But he is a good friend of ours and charges next to nothing.
I'd get a few quotes though if you're not entirely happy.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/12/2013 20:24

I think that's a cheap as chips and you should bite their hands off! (essex here)

DoJo · 12/12/2013 20:58

StoorieHoose I'm assuming that they are handymen being as they are working for less than £100 a day!

Mawgatron · 12/12/2013 21:01

DH is a painter and decorator and that is about right.

It's expensive getting painters to do it for you wherever you live. I cannot bear to pay other people to do something I could actually do myself.

JollySparklyGiant · 12/12/2013 22:15

One room Shock That's why we do the decorating ourselves!

gamerchick · 12/12/2013 22:19

Thats a pretty decent price.

I do all our decorating.. what you've described is pretty easy OP.. could you not do it yourself?

NearTheWindmill · 12/12/2013 22:20

It sounds extremely reasonable to me.

Have just had a four floor town house redecorated from top to bottom. A bit of making good but no stripping or papering except for in the kitchen which was presented as a builders' finish - there was a lot of hall, stairs and landing and paintwork. £5,500 not including materials. They did it in two weeks and there were four or five working sometimes. SW London.

ENormaSnob · 12/12/2013 22:25

Sounds about right imo.

bellasuewow · 12/12/2013 22:26

Sounds really cheap to me. Go for it or do it yourself to save money.

Joysmum · 12/12/2013 22:34

Sounds good to me too. I do all of our decorating and have done a number if buy to lets but when the hall stairs and landing if my house needed doing, I paid decorators to do it. The finish they got was far superior than I could do and I don't do a half arsed job. The woodwork was especially impressive.

BaldHedgehog · 12/12/2013 22:50

20£/h here in NE Scotland for professional painter. He did a brilliant job but had him here for 3 days. The walls are such shit that i'd never manage to wallpaper it myself, even the floor is not square!
