That I can't get pissed at Christmas!
I'm going to be the only sober one there and booze is normally what helps to make the whole thing less annoying and more easy going!

I hope I don't get left in charge of everyone's kids because I will be sober - I can't be arsed.

So I'm going to have to lay down the rules early which will make me look like a miserable beeyatch - which I suppose I am! Is that unreasonable or should I sort of take my turn as childminder of the day hoping that I'll get the favour back one day??

Roll on Xmas 2015 - it's my turn to get SHITFACED!! (Except then I'll have two kids under three years old....,. So maybe roll on Xmas 2030! Woo hoooooo!)

Ignore the nay-Sayers, Christmas is a time for jollity and bubbles. Why don't you try to mimic the things you like? I'm experimenting by mulling apple juice...for that not-quite-mulled-cider taste!

Congratulations on being pregnant. I'm sure you know there are SO many women who wish they were in your position and would give loads more than a sober holiday season in order to be so.
I had a half glass of white wine mixed with diet 7-up (had gestational diabetes) last christmas when I was pregnant with my twins, and it hit the spot perfectly.
I know you seem to be meaning this thread light-heartedly, but I really find it in poor taste.
YABU.

Yes, I'm v happy to be pregnant, and this certainly isn't a whinge about that in any way. Many threads on aibu are lighthearted, just as many are very serious - and it's up to you whether you consider me to have done this in poor taste. It's just a post on an Internet forum....

Yup, just as it was your choice to post on a public internet forum where the topic is "Am I Being Unreasonable". I reckon you are. Others don't. YMMV.

I have been thinking about this (perhaps a bad idea...)

I think you should mention to the others that you think you might be feeling a bit tired at Christmas, what with your pregnancy, so you might need to go and have a little rest. Hope you don't think I'm rude if I'm not joining in the whole time etc. etc. Then even if you don't want to have a rest, they will know you aren't there to look after their kids, without you having to mention kids at all. Or you could ask if they would be able to keep and eye on your existing DC for a bit along with their kids, so again they know that you won't be looking after theirs.

I am preggers and glad that we will be having a fairly quiet Christmas with just me, DH, DD and my parents. No one else has children in my family, so the other option (that I'm glad is not happening) is more noisy adults.... However, I will be having a glass of champagne or maybe even two - I will be 32 weeks by then.

If no one as mentioned it already (and it gets mentioned on most threads about pregnancy) STILTON IS ALLOWED NOW!!

Also wanted to mention - I won't be roped into being designated driver just because I am pregnant. Seems completely unfair (and actually a bit dangerous) because what you are when you are pregnant is v tired (I seem to be banging on about this tiredness business quite alot, but it's true). Therefore not a brilliant idea to be driving about the place in the evening IMO.

DH does understand that being pregnant does not mean I am driving him. I haven't asked him to give up booze with me for either pregnancy so expect he is just glad about that! (he's not a big drinker anyway, but like most people probably prefers to have something than nothing if we are out).

YANBU - I'm not allowed to drink atm due to medication - when I realised this also meant AT CHRISTMAS I felt disappointed! (I am in no way a big drinker btw)

Also, congratulations OP Flowers. Have a wee glass of something with your dinner and then film the relatives drunk and bribe them with said footage at a later date Smile.

Do people really not drink the odd glass of booze when PG/BF any more? Even at Xmas? I will have one at xmas, I've been having one two a week since week 13.

However, I agree with many posters that the British attitude to booze is just wrong. I hate that 'oh go on, just have a drink, go on!' pressure.

Surely you now have the perfect excuse to say you are knackered and will need to go and have a lie down? Instant escape from all the boring stories, having to look interested, looking after all the kids etc. From your OP you seemed to be saying that the main plus point of drinking was making all that seem more bearable, so I think this is a win-win, really. Congrats on your pregnancy!

I do also agree that the shock expressed at people not drinking is highly irritating. How many threads have there been on here with people saying 'I'm pregnant and need an excuse for why I'm not drinking at X event so people don't twig'. It says something that you need an excuse not to be drinking. I never even notice this.

YABU for using preggers >

I am also pregnant Wink and while I generally don't drink anyway and think it's sad if you need it (general you not you you iyswim) I can confirm that work Christmas dos sober when noone can know you are pg yet Are fucking painful because:

A - you just want to admit you'd rather go to sleep / vomit peacefully in your room

B - the drinking gestapo whines on about how boring you are and wants to know why you aren't getting pissed Hmm

Oh and TooOld all cheese is mouldy that's kind of the point Confused though stilton is rank

Actually, all cheese is NOT mouldy. There are many which have an artificial rind, or have more of an air dried sort of a skin on them.
Blue cheese is mouldy per se but it's a proper cultured mould put there on purpose artificially and is harmless. Blue cheese is only dangerous in PG when it is soft. This gives it a higher water content and changes the ph making it more susceptible to things like listeria. Or unpasteurised which means that it has all of the milks natural bacteria in it and any possible infection that the milk might have been harbouring which pasteurisation 2 old have killed.
Ditto with things like Brie and camembert which also have a high water content and an external mould rind which is more susceptible to infection. Add to the fact that these are often unpasteurised then this makes them quite risky to eat.

I have seen a 'Preggo' in this thread. What on earth is going on on Mumsnet at the moment?

And to return to the discussion, I have 1 glass of red wine, occasionally two most days with a meal and I am BF. I have no interest in getting drunk but would occasionally like a 3rd glass but never do. Christmas or not.

HungryHorace · 11/12/2013 07:51

I'm happy to have the odd drink once I'm into the second trimester but I'll only be 7 weeks' pregnant this Christmas.

Not drinking doesn't bother me really, though a glass of fizzy would hit the spot!

I'm not sure cheese licking is that fun either! Thankfully I'm not that bothered about the ones to avoid. :-)

I hope it all goes well, OP.
