That I can't get pissed at Christmas!
I'm going to be the only sober one there and booze is normally what helps to make the whole thing less annoying and more easy going!

I hope I don't get left in charge of everyone's kids because I will be sober - I can't be arsed.

So I'm going to have to lay down the rules early which will make me look like a miserable beeyatch - which I suppose I am! Is that unreasonable or should I sort of take my turn as childminder of the day hoping that I'll get the favour back one day??

Roll on Xmas 2015 - it's my turn to get SHITFACED!! (Except then I'll have two kids under three years old....,. So maybe roll on Xmas 2030! Woo hoooooo!)

It could be worse, you could be me...I was pregnant last Christmas and I'm also pregnant this Christmas! Good timing, eh?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I'd agree with getting either Becks Blue or an alcohol free wine in (DH discovered quite a nice rose one during my last pregnancy, but I can't remember what brand it is).

Mouthfulofquiz · 07/12/2013 19:11

SillyBilly - you are so right!!!! I probably deserve a taste of my own medicine!!

Mishmashofstyles · 07/12/2013 19:12

I don't get it either.
Maybe because when I was pregnant at Christmas I just had my nice single glass of champagne with dinner as I always would.

katese11 · 07/12/2013 19:14

I have only had one Christmas in the last six years where I haven't been pregnant or breastfeeding. This year I'm only bfeeding a toddler once a day so I reckon I can get away with a sneaky baileys. Sober family Christmas is ok. .. sober work parties are the pits!

Mouthfulofquiz · 07/12/2013 19:15

I've not been great at timing either... This is my second pregnant Xmas.... But the last one had far fewer people there anf was a different group.
Why don't I get preggers rs at new year like all the sensible folk!!?

OP posts:
Mouthfulofquiz · 07/12/2013 19:15

I hadn't even considered sober work parties!!! Far worse I'm sure!!

I think it is the use of words like "pissed" and "shitfaced" in the OP that have led to comments regarding OP's attitude to drink.
I gave up blue cheeses when pg - found I missed my Christmas stilton more than the alcohol!

HungryHorace · 07/12/2013 19:21

I was looking mournfully at the pate selection in Sainsbury's yesterday!

And kate, one in six? That's good going!

Mouthfulofquiz · 07/12/2013 19:27

I think I just said 'pissed' and 'shitfaced' because I fancied a swear and I must say I thought people would see the lighthearted approach - I hold my hands up there, my mistake.

Hungry I gave birth on 3 weeks early on Christmas Eve. DH left the hospital and rushed to Tesco for pate for me to have on Christmas Day. I'd missed that more than anything!

IamInvisible · 07/12/2013 19:28

Congratulations, btw, MouthfulXmas Smile

grumpyoldbat · 07/12/2013 19:32

Sober works night out are fine IME. Never been drunk in my life. I love getting up on the dance floor at party nights.

HungryHorace · 07/12/2013 19:33

Your DH sounds fantastic, Invisible!

Next year I'm going to eat my own body weight in pate, as I will NOT be pregnant then! :-)

MavisDee · 07/12/2013 20:41

Don't worry OP, I read it as lighthearted, how it was meant. This was me last year, treated myself to a glass of wine with dinner, and went to bed very soon after midnight on New Year's Eve, while the party went on downstairs (after a slightly hormonal sob when the clock struck 12, cringe!)

Mia4 · 07/12/2013 21:12

Fuck that shit, I hate being assumed to be designated driver when i'm on antibiotics and can't touch a drop - especially when people expect multiple journeys. I would not be impressed as designated babysitter, even if i couldn't have alcohol. Lay down the rules early OP.

I love a drink at christmas but if my Dsis' or bro decided I was going to stress out in order for them to have a child-free day they'd be spending xmas at their own places.

You can have a spritzer if you want one can't you OP? I love mulled wine at xmas and in the winter, it seems wrong the rest of the year round and the taste is lush.

Mia4 · 07/12/2013 21:13

And what about Xmas 2014 OP? Is that one out? :)

HaroldTheGoat · 07/12/2013 21:15

I felt sorry for you I did, I thought that everybody was going to get totally drunk to the point they couldn't look after their kids and I had am image of you like a sober woman who lives in a shoe covered in kids, whilst every one was slumped in corners covered in vomit and pieces of Turkey.

I am glad that this won't be the case. Just eat everything and bloody hell no don't be minding kids, if you get corned by people talking crap just tell them in great depth how you think you are developing a pile.

Mouthfulofquiz · 07/12/2013 21:32

I probably will be developing a pile from all the cake I will have eaten by then!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 07/12/2013 21:56

Aah sod it! I'm pregnant and I cannot make it through Christmas with the in laws without at least one small drinky!
One wont do any harm. I NEED it! Sad Sad Sad
TBH it's the cheese I'll miss more!
I sell cheese and we have some amazing varieties . My cheeseboard last year was enormous and gorgeous. I an just yearning for something soft and blue! Sad Sad Sad

HaroldTheGoat · 07/12/2013 22:54

Lick some cheese?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 07/12/2013 23:23

Surely if I'm going to lick it I might as well eat it! Hmm

Mawgatron · 07/12/2013 23:48

When I was preggo last year I woke DH up at 8am crying on about the 22nd December because there was going to be lots of fun drinking going on and I couldn't drink at all and it apparently was going to RUIN MY LIFE. I was possibly a little hormonal and irrational at the time...

LittleBabyPigsus · 08/12/2013 00:06

Congrats Mouthful Smile Cranberry juice with ginger ale is a nice festive drink, or Aldi do non-alcoholic Christmas punches you could have instead of mulled wine. A bucks fizz with more juice than fizz is surely OK as a one-off though, right?

I do like a drink and wouldn't enjoy alcohol being forbidden, but equally the idea that all non-drinkers are boring is really unfair since lots don't drink for medical reasons.

TeamSouthfields · 08/12/2013 20:06

isn't christmas meant for the kids?!?

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 08/12/2013 20:08

I'd give anything to have your "problem". x
