The only person I know who says 'text' instead of 'texted' also thinks 'slep' is the past tense of 'to sleep'.

For me, Texted is on par with 'drownEDed'

I avoid the word entirely in its past tense and revert to adding message as the verb. Old school but it feels more comfortable
