what is it about a bargain that turns a normally sensible person into a bankrupt?

Okay bankrupt may be going a bit far but..

DH is normally tight with money - he believes that changing a toothbrush more than once every six months is extravagant - but for some reason every year on Amazon black Friday he seems to lose the plot. He hates Christmas because it's a "bloody waste of hard earned money" yes he is northern but he has just spent a fortune on tat for the house, including a new computer chair that was a bargain at £90 but is just a cheep blue swivel chair that staples sell for £40. We already have four computer chairs ffs!

It's psychological, innit?! Xmas Wink

But yes, it is the way it is framed, the "special day" idea, the persuasion that 50% makes it a bargain, as opposed to evaluating it on the actual price payable etc etc

We all fall foul it is. I had to give myself a stern talking to yesterday in TKMaxx along the same lines!

In seriousness though, long distance consumer regs means that he you can send it back. Or else sell the other computer chairs!

CarolPrankster · 06/12/2013 11:29

He is insuring that it's a great chair- apparently it is German, so it's fabulous Hmm according to the assembly instructions it's for a child DH can't see that though, he is blinded and in love Xmas Grin

This is why I don't understand people who shop in Primark. 'oh all their stuff is a bargain'!
'Yes, but you have just spent £100 on bags full of clothes that after two washes are only fit for the bin. Where's your £100 then?!'

DeWe · 06/12/2013 11:33

Dh doesn't do bargains though. He looks at a bargain (eg. save 75% on £100) and rather than saying "ooh I save £75," he says "Look they want me to spend £25 I wasn't going to".

I don't take him with me when I'm sale shopping. Grin

Yy primark, it's not a bargain it's tat.

To be fair DH did get a karcher window vac on black Friday and that is German and it is fabulous!

He is being ferociously stubborn over the chair though.
Xmas Hmm

OK, then ask him which chair(s) you can take to the tip as they have been replaced by SuperChair.

CreamyCooler · 06/12/2013 11:56

I love Clinique skincare stuff and when they have their bonus time, you have to buy 2 things to get lots of free mini goodies I frenzy out.

XmasBuffetTablefor4 · 06/12/2013 11:57

DeWe - indeed - it is only a bargain if you actually intended to buy it for full price (or full price was too much for you)

LittleMissGreen · 06/12/2013 11:59

I was just impressed that he bought a chair for your horse just because it was a bargain price mustn't skim read next time

CarolPrankster · 06/12/2013 12:23

I have tried to put one of the computer chairs on freecycle but when someone turned up to collect it he wouldn't let it go, apparently we may need it sometime Xmas Hmm it sits in the corner of the bedroom looking ugly.

I really think that this new chair is a childs one as he kind of has to perch on it Grin. He is probably the most stubborn man in the world so he will continue to perch on it for at least a year before the DCs are allowed anywhere near it.

I'm not going to mention the 21 book set of favous five books I got for DD reduced from £104 to £20. She's only 4 months

I also got an electric toothbrush which is in the argos catalogue for €330 for under €100 and nappy bin cartridges which I usually pay €24 for 3, I got 9 for €22
