To wish people had the common decency to tidy up after themselves in busy fast food restaurants

Christmas shopping today with ds2 (22months) and we stopped to get lunch at McDonalds. It was really busy. We eventually saw that a couple were about to leave, they could see we were waiting for a seat, they got up and went leaving their mess behind for me to tidy up before we sat down to eat.
Aibu?

Try Gregg's instead?

InTheRedCorner · 05/12/2013 20:09

Yanbu

It's rude and entitled behaviour.

GreggsOnLegs · 05/12/2013 20:09

I fancied a change from the usual sausage rolls and steak bakes today chipped Grin

To be honest, it doesn't bother me too much. At least if they've left all their rubbish there, someone who works there will hopefully notice and come along and wipe up the inevitable ketchup spills before I sit down at what I think is a clean table and get ketchup all over me. Or even if there's no ketchup, there's bound to be grease everywhere. If everyone picked up after themselves the table could go all day without even a quick wipe of a cloth.

Crowler · 05/12/2013 20:14

It's rude. YANBU. Particularly if it's busy and people are searching for tables.

BenNJerry · 05/12/2013 20:15

YANBU. I clear up all rubbish and chuck it in the bin before leaving. It's bloody rude and lazy IMO.

maddy68 · 05/12/2013 20:15

It doesn't occur to me to tidy up after myself in any restaurant fast foot or otherwise. I'm paying to eat there. If I wanted the. Creaming up experience I would eat at home

maddy68 · 05/12/2013 20:15

Cleaning up lol. That's a whole new thread entirely :)

HanneHolm · 05/12/2013 20:16

god no

i am creating employment for NEETS by not doing it

complexnumber · 05/12/2013 20:16

I think I must lack any common decency, as it really doesn't bother me at all.

It's just how fast food outlets work.

Tiredmumno1 · 05/12/2013 20:19

I always tidy up after us, just can't help it Grin

I do try in Morrisons, but they always tell me to leave it Blush at least I tried Grin

CrohnicallySick · 05/12/2013 20:22

Wasn't there a thread about cleaning up after children in cafes, and people who worked in cafes said don't bother because they needed to see the extent of the mess and clean up properly, rather than a customer doing a half assed job and something getting missed like jam on the floor, and then someone could slip and hurt themselves and sue the cafe? At least I think that's how it went! Why is a fast food place any different?

GreggsOnLegs · 05/12/2013 20:22

I'm not expecting people to start sweeping the floor or clean the loos just put their fucking rubbish in the bin, it's not a big ask and wouldn't put the cleaners out of work

OP posts:
CrohnicallySick · 05/12/2013 20:23

Oh and jam on the floor can be really nasty, I slipped on some at work and sprained my leg. If I was an elderly person I could have fallen and broken my hip or something. And wasn't there a teacher who slipped on a chip and got a huge payout? Food related spillages should be taken seriously!

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 05/12/2013 20:24

I refuse to clean up after myself in a restaurant, its part of the reason for going in the first place, no cleaning up Grin
Staff are paid to do this, if there aren't enough staff or they are too busy, that is the problem for their management to sort out.

BananaNotPeelingWell · 05/12/2013 20:25

Yadnbu.

GreggsOnLegs · 05/12/2013 20:26

So you can see someone with their tray and a toddler hanging off their leg, no spare seats in sight, your just about to leave and think yeah I'll leave my mess here for the next person who sits here to tidy up?

OP posts:
HanneHolm · 05/12/2013 20:27

yup

tbh i dont give a shit about your toddler

gaggiagirl · 05/12/2013 20:29

Think I can solve this one slightly. My DBro works in fast food.

I have always cleared up after myself in a ff restaurant. I told him this he told me to stop it. As mentioned above the tables need a proper wipe between customers and a staff member is on duty to do just that.

I still do it though. I can't not.

penguin73 · 05/12/2013 20:29

"yup, tbh i dont give a shit about your toddler"

and that selfish attitude is sadly becoming the norm. YADNBU Op, far too many selfish people around who could do a simple thing to help others but wont.

Sirzy · 05/12/2013 20:30

Places like McDonalds are supposed to be "self-clear" arent they? So yes people should take 2 seconds to put their stuff on a tray and empty the tray into a bin on the way out.

In normal restaurants then I make sure that there aren't bits of food and napkins lying around and clear bits off the floor. Basically making sure that all the waiting staff need to do is pick up plates and glasses and give the table a quick wipe over.

Crowler · 05/12/2013 20:31

tbh i dont give a shit about your toddler

You're lovely.

gaggiagirl · 05/12/2013 20:31

OP, I would have left the table sparkling for you Smile just don't tell my brother.

CrohnicallySick · 05/12/2013 20:31

I don't leave it for you to clear up, I leave it for the staff to clear up.

If the only table available is messy, I stand there, stake my claim at the table and call for the staff to clear up. (Not in a nasty way, just 'excuse me, could you clear this table please?' Or something along those lines)

It annoys me that places try to get by without employing enough people to clean up. Just imagine how many more jobs would be created if they all employed just one more person per shift.

expatinscotland · 05/12/2013 20:31

YANBU. Loutish behaviour. Since when is walking to a bin 'cleaning up'?
