to find it disgusting that my DF does this...

He uses a knife to cut bread, pears, apples, pretty much anything. Then wipes it with a tea towel (that has been used all throughout that day for different things), then puts it back in the drawer.

It knocks me sick. Especially since i eat there at times. The more i see him do it, the less i want to eat there! Unless i clean my knife and fork beforehand, which i would find rude if somebody done that here.

Grin fairylea! The op now feels really sick!

YANBU! Dog food and the floor! Ewwwwwwwww

ViviPru · 04/12/2013 15:06

I would do it when alone at home (but probably only with bread, nothing moist like fruit or veg or cheese) with the Global knives as they can't be chucked in the dishwasher and I'm too lazy to wash them up by hand.

But I would JUDGE if I saw someone else do it in my presence and I'd never do it if I had someone over lest it was repellant to them.

mumofweeboys · 04/12/2013 15:13

My oh is mustard for using the tea towel to mop things up - gross. I now have lots of tea towels and he ia strictly trained to put them in the washing basket in the kitchen.

ViviPru · 04/12/2013 15:15

My DH is a tea towel mustard too. It drives me potty, he manages to get them soaking wet within minutes then screws them up at the back of the counter. I have no idea why/how. I like my tea towels laundry-fresh and dry for as long as possible.

SoonToBeSix · 04/12/2013 15:18

I can't take this thread seriously any more as I can't stop laughing at fairylea. But no op yanbu.

Fairylea · 04/12/2013 15:19

I have a toddler brain today... that's my excuse.

What a bloody big drip feed, OP! Grin

You asked about a tea towel and now it's used to clean toilets almost! Picking up dog food, ffs. Are you sure?! Shock

SantasLittleLineRunner · 04/12/2013 15:34

Fairylea I hope to god that Aitch puts that in the Talk round up. Grin

wontletmesignin · 04/12/2013 15:35

Ehhh i didnt set out to drip feed. I asked the question because i find it disgusting that a knife is being out back after being used to cut fruits(stated in the op), and cheese and other things. Then being wiped with a tea towel then placed back.

People wanted me to give further reasons behind my thoughts so i did.

I was more than happy with my first responses.

Jesus. Calm down

It's gross if the towel isn't washed after being used for manky jobs. Whether the towel is used for the knife or not.

It's fine to wipe a knife and reuse it later, UNLESS you are cutting germy things like meat, cheese because I'm allergic to it, or something that has a very strong flavour like garlic or onions, which will stay on the knife even if wiped.

So, YABU, but YANBU about the tea towel. It's the wrong thing you're objecting to Grin

I think you probably are being a bit overcautious though. After all what happens when a knife is washed up? It's dipped in some soapy water, then wiped with a cloth and dried on a (hopefully clean!) tea towel. OK so you miss out the soap but if there's still a bit of moisture from the fruit then it's all good.

Obviously you need a clean towel, though. But it's definitely the towel which is the issue and not the re-using of the knife. Defo.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 04/12/2013 15:42

(Cheese would be fine BTW if I wasn't allergic to it :))

mrsWast · 04/12/2013 15:44

maybe if you snog your dad and offer oral sex he might agree to use a clean tea towel?

Hullygully · 04/12/2013 15:45

The knife should be rinsed and left to air dry

the end

FunnyRunner · 04/12/2013 15:50

fairylea that gave me the best laugh I've had all day :o

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/12/2013 15:56

mrsWast go back to your corner and wash your mouth with soap!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/12/2013 15:57

No probs, OP Smile

mrsWast · 04/12/2013 16:01

i've had a good think about what i've done and would like to apologise to the class.

digerd · 04/12/2013 16:10

I use kitchen towel to wipe things up. Tea towels are purely for drying the clean washing up.
The handle of the knife with have his germs on from his hands and should be washed up properly.

MelanieRavenswood · 04/12/2013 16:14

Knife should be at least rinsed. Tea towels should be only for drying stuff that is already clean. YANBU.

monicalewinski · 04/12/2013 17:15
