Because I seem to be doing a damn good job of trying so far! This cold/bug/virus has me at the end of my tether and I've just had enough. I've gone from shivering under 37 duvets to coughing to much I feel like I've ruptured my throat and dislocated my shoulder.....I finally conceded and called the GP today and am going to see them later.....it's not normal is it? I can't stop coughing and every time I do I brace myself because my throat is so sore and I feel like I'm going to be sick....

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOE IS MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Xmas Sad

Bah Bloody Humbug!

Nope. I had a nasty cough for three weeks that got worse yesterday when. I choked and couldn't breathe for a good few seconds. It scared me enough to get checked out. I have bronchitis and now I have lovely antibiotics and a reliever inhaler. The inhaler is fabulous as I feel like I can pull enough air into my lungs now to get behind the cough and I feel like all the gunk is shifting. I hope your appointment goes well.

TalkieToaster · 04/12/2013 13:38

Oh, and I have the strongest pelvic floor ever and was coughing so much that I was wetting myself occasionally. Griiiiiiim.

OHforDUCKSchristmascake · 04/12/2013 13:41

Might be pneumonia. Last time I saw a read like this, thats what it turned out to be.

What time is your appointment?

maras2 · 04/12/2013 13:46

Do you know I'd have argued with anyone that this is indeed true when I had the snot, cough lurgy in April.Despite the fact that I worked as a senior nurse on a chest ward for 20 years, I'd argue with any bastard consultant chest physician < who looks as if he's about to sit the 11 plus > that it is extremely possible if not probable that one can die from this.I feel your pain.Get well soon. Mx.

ScarletLady02 · 04/12/2013 15:59

Thanks all...the doctor diagnosed a chest/throat infection and has given me antibiotics. Hopefully they'll sort it out....I feel diabolical.

I too have suffered the grimness you describe TalkieToaster

many 25 and a bit years ago I was coughing myself stupid to the point of choking, had my DD the next day in two hours funnily enough my cough vanished never to return

CustardOmlet · 04/12/2013 21:31

You will cough until you faint, then you will stop coughing and breath normally! Tadah!

Yellowcake · 04/12/2013 21:34

Of course you can. Look at the Brontes.

(Apart from Charlotte, who died of hyperemesis. Sad)

penguin73 · 04/12/2013 23:04

If you can use it with your antibiotics try a throat spray - it's the only thing that kept me sane last week when I had this as it numbs the throat so the coughing doesn't hurt as much.

TodaysAGoodDay · 04/12/2013 23:09

YADNBU. You have my sympathy.

I'm on day 6 of the coughing, and it's driving me demented. I am getting seriously angry every time I cough, it hurts my ribs, I have muscle spasms and my -ahem- pelvic basement floor is not what it should be Blush. I've used 2 full reliever inhalers in the last week and I wish the bloody cough would just bugger off.

OHforDUCKSchristmascake · 05/12/2013 09:28

Why would you stop coughing because you fainted?

My son coughs in his sleep. Its totally possible to cough even though you arent conscious.

Feminine · 05/12/2013 09:32

Silly scaremongering thread.

DarkTherapy · 05/12/2013 09:32

I used to have awful episodes of coughing that left me gasping for breath. The upside of the bout that lasted 3 weeks was that I darn near had a six pack set of abs from all the coughing! Hope you feel better soon.

NigellasLeftNostril · 05/12/2013 09:33

you must go to the doctor with an ongoing cough I now know two people who have died in their sleep of pneumonia from an untreated cough.
never worry that you might be wasting the doc's time or that it 'is only a cough'.
I had pneumonia myself from an untreated cough but went to the doc in time.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 05/12/2013 09:35

Day 8 in the Big Cough House. Green's housemates want to kill her for coughing loudly all night.

Urgh.

ZingSweetPea · 05/12/2013 09:42

apply Vicks vaporub on the soles of your feet. it will reduce/stop the coughing
