To bloody hate leaf blowers?

What's the point of them? Why can't a brush be used?
I've just put dd down for a nap and instantly someone starts blowing bloody leaves around. It sounds like they're digging up the road. Why?

I'm with you. Our neighbours are obsessed with the bloody thing...and always when I put DS down for a nap!
I mean, back in the day we had brushes and rakes...

notallytuts · 03/12/2013 15:56

quicker and easier than using a brush for large areas

you could always volunteer to sweep if the noise annoys you that much Wink

StayAwayFromDeliriumDive · 03/12/2013 16:31

Depends how many leaves you have. We back on to a cemetry and have to hire a large skip every year to clear the leaves that fall into our garden. The leaf blower makes the thankless task that bit easier!

southeastastra · 03/12/2013 16:44

i've seen them blow leaves into the road. really pisses me off, just pick the feckers up if they annoy you that much.

DontLetTheMugglesGetYouDown · 03/12/2013 16:45

Yabu. They are so much fun!

BringMeTea · 03/12/2013 17:05

YANBU. When I rule the world they are top of my banned list. They are banned in certain parts of the USA. Noise pollution a go go. Awful things.

StayAwayFromDeliriumDive · 03/12/2013 17:27

No worse than lawnmowers and strimmers BringMeTea - or maybe you use a pair scissors?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 03/12/2013 17:37

If you're wanting to make leaf mold, a leaf blower that chops the leaves small gives the tougher ones a real head start in the rotting process. It takes about a year off the process by my reckoning.

bigbrick · 03/12/2013 17:38

Waste of resources to be using a leaf blower - nothing wrong with a rake

SantyClaws · 03/12/2013 17:40

"According to the California Air Resource Board, the carbon monoxide emitted from a gas-powered leaf blower operating for half an hour is equal to that emitted by an average-sized automobile over 700 kilometres. One hour of use released up to 500 times the hydrocarbons, 49 times the particulate matter and 26 times the carbon monoxide as released by an average-sized car".

Yikes! Who knew?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 03/12/2013 17:41

I don't really understand them tbh a leaf sucker upper (new word) makes more sense, I mean surely you only blow the problem elsewhere?

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 03/12/2013 17:44

Yeah it pisses me off, oh yes blow those leaves away from your area but PUT THEM ONTO MINE?!

StayAwayFromDeliriumDive · 03/12/2013 17:44

We blow ours to the skip and then shovel them in!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 03/12/2013 18:02

We have a neighbour who leaf blows at the slightest hint of one fluttering onto his garden. But not only that, he does the whole open space RIGHT AT THE BACK OF MY HOUSE TOO. Which means I can take DD to school, and he's still going by the time she gets home. I kid you not.

I work from home. I have to listen to it all fucking day. Music, tv, singing, not a damn thing blots out the sound. I dream of sneaking out behind him and cutting the cable.......

digerd · 03/12/2013 18:07

The hoover/shredders are the best as no bending down till the bag is full. Blowers only just blow the leaves to somewhere else which can be blown back by the wind. Nobody I see collects them up.

TodgerDodger · 03/12/2013 18:16

Every time I take my toddler to the park, someone in a hi-vis jacket starts up a leaf blower. Toddler gets scared and we have to go home.

YANBU. It really pisses me off. Why would they bring it over to a small child?

mewmeow · 03/12/2013 20:15

Yanbu.

So much noise for such a relatively minimal achievement. The council comes around once a week to do them, even in summer, when there isn't a leaf in sight. Then they'll stay around our block for nigh on three hours! Wish they were so committed to other stuff, like recycling Confused

LaGuardia · 03/12/2013 21:19

What is wrong with leaves? Why can't you all leave them alone?
