To not be so bothered that neighbour is now pissed off with me? (boring xmas lights thread)

Ok so myself and neighbour share a hedge, its actually on my property so my hedge, but separates both houses. For an eternity, every single christmas, neighbour likes to invite poundland to throw up in her garden choose carefully selected christmas lights to make her house look as trashy as possible.

This is my ds's first christmas where he will notice things and hes already loving the lights we see in shops so i thought i'd buy a large net of lights to put over this hedge, be a bit different from neighbours 2 lines of fairy lights. I also bought 2 large snowflake things for the front windows and some stars to go around the door. As i was putting them up this morning neighbour came back from doing her shopping and just stood there staring with her mouth wide open in horror, i said hiya, she said hiya back then went in.

Dp says i should have asked her if it was ok - err ask her if its ok to put christmas lights on my own hedge? Im not even that bloody bothered about them just thought it would be nice for ds to look at, which is why ive never bothered doing anything like this before.

Now neighbours have been arguing all day about various things but they keep coming back to the bleeding lights and how ive apparently taken over? (walls are paper thin, they argue quite a lot, never about christmas lights though) Should i just take them down? I dont really see why the fuss if im honest but she is a bit obsessive about everything, for example shes the type to put her wheely bin in her parking space right outside her house. She hates anyone parking within an inch of her house, yet her and her teenage children can park where they feel like. So the great christmas lights debacle of 2013 will keep her moaning for quite a while.

OP you reminded me of a photo I saw on fb. In it were two houses, the first completely covered in lights/decorations. The lights on the second house were simply an arrow pointing at the first house with twat underneath.

Just sayin' like Wink

Btw YANBU

You need a mooning Santa. My neighbour across the road has one. Santa's bum lights up as he bends over and drops his trousers.

Even more of a priority than the hedge adornments is to get cavity wall insulation sorted out Grin

Hopefully your net of lights have at least 10 settings (twinkle, sparkle, strobe, glow, Blackpool illuminations etc, etc) so you can give your neighbours a great performance for the next 4 weeks

It'd be rude not to.

I do have different settings for them actually, although strobe was a bit too much, we could still see them with the curtains shut, poor ds started spinning around making himself dizzy, obviously gave him saturday night fever so had to change it, there just on low at the moment, although we have flashing and twinkling for when i want to pull out the big guns!

I am liking the full on nativity scene with lobsters though! If one was to purchase such a thing were would one go?

flaire your description is actually a lot more tasteful than what we are used to from her believe it or not. Think snow spray over the front door (usually black, and usually wears off by easter, Lights in every single window, solar santa lights stuck in her dead plants, so they just light up the twigs, and millions of fake flowers from poundland stuck in the borders and decorated with bright blue and red fairy lights) - Id rather have what you described

Shes now stormed off with the kids - again, The walls are thin but the husband is vile and screams an awful lot. Hes a hermit who lives his life through the living room window, he saw me putting the lights up today and shook his head, i didnt say anything back just saw out of the corner of my eye. At least they'll have something to talk about anyway!

If only they had an outside power socket you could run a very long lead to and connect your herd of sparkly reindeer doing that slow motion headbanging you see on QVC...

Nothing on the hedge tho....yet!

haha, im not brave enough to go and ask if she can stand proudly by her fake flower field decorated with multicoloured strobing lights, as the people of mumsnet would like some inspiration for their own gardens. Smile

may get dp to take a pic from the upstairs window later though!

Oh yes please, photos. How many outdoor electrical sockets do the have? If her fake flowers are in the ground and/or wrapped round shrubs, if it snows they will all be covered upGrin.

Well we don't do fake flowers but yes we are one if those people who decorate our garden, we and our kids love it! I think our nativity this year will be very tasteful, last year it was only a Mary, Joseph and Jesus but this year my DH has bought the 3 wise men and to make it really authentic hes had a friend who's a joiner build him a stable!

I really hope that this will be a thread that keeps on giving. Can you add anymore decorations to the hedge? I'm thinking gnomes dressed as Santa "hiding" and peeping out in a cheeky fashion. Bet you neighbour has never thought of that...

Could you rearrange her lights overnight so when she switches them on they flash the word "Cunt"....?
