I am listening to Jeremy Vine and just heard a Doc state that Type 2 Diabetes is totally avoidable. I am sick and tired of people assuming that if you are type 2 that you stuff yourself with pies and cakes, lazy and brought this on yourself. I am none of the above and not overweight but am very active unfortunately I am type 2. I am fuming. AIBU to thia this doctor is a twat and should think before he speaks

It's true that there is a lot of over simplification over diabetes. My father is on the borderline of type 2 diabetes and has his weight and sugar level monitored. Whilst it may be due to his age, it is also thought to have been partly due to the statins he's been on for 30 years.

My daughter has type 1 and a lot of people assume that it was because of something we gave her.

They are a bit taken aback when I tell them that actually she contracted a virus which caused her body to attack the pancreas and that is why she I'd diabetic.

Dd keeps telling us that she can't wait for her diabetes to turn into type 2 so she can have tablets instead, don't think she quite understands yet Sad
