to think you most likely wouldn't have your passport with you if marrying in the UK (and live here)?

Just watched Eastenders for first time in eons.

So Alfie Moon's marrying some bird. He realises he loves Kat still and nicks off to airport to beg her to be with him. Manages to get an air ticket and gets on plane even though cabin door's been shut Hmm

Why would he have his passport with him? And weren't the passengers and cabin crew very patient whilst the pair of them were on the tarmac?

I'm not hooked now honest! Wink

Ahhh now here's Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners on, a proper programme.

Don't you need ID to get married in the UK?

ShadowFall · 26/11/2013 20:07

Well, you need ID to give notice of marriage - so... maybe he got confused and thought he needed to take the ID along to the actual marriage as well?

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 20:08

Yes that'll be it, he was just confused Grin

Probably deep down he knew he was going to run off with Kat, so his subconscious mind prepared for it? Or maybe the EastEnders scriptwriters are crap? Dunno... can't make my mind up Grin

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 20:18

Yes it was subconscious Grin

Could have been planning to go straight from the reception to the airport to go on honeymoon?

Sirzy · 26/11/2013 20:22

YANBU

But then again he wouldn't have been able to get through security that quickly

What happened to the having to arrive 2 hours before the flight (for both of them?)

They wouldn't have opened the gate for him

They certainly wouldn't open the plane for him when he knocked on the door.

I know soaps aren't known for being realistic but tonight really did take the piss in the stupidity

Sirzy · 26/11/2013 20:22

MsMoss - as the reception was in the vic that theory doesn't work either

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 20:24

Well said Sirzy my thinking exactly.

I never watch soaps these days and now I know why. I went to light switch on the other night with work and there was someone called Gary from Corra. Had no clue Blush

Of course it was, despite not having watched EE for years I really should have known that Grin

Vatta · 26/11/2013 20:31

I think you have to take passports / proof of id when getting married now, I'm pretty sure i showed mine one the day.

Letticetheslug · 26/11/2013 20:31

I've carried my passport with me for the last 28 years, still haven't been whisked off yet though

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 26/11/2013 20:36

I definitely didn't bring my passport when I got married, i left my phone and everything, the only reason my cigarettes and lippy made it was my moh chucked them into her bag. I forgot to even bring clothes to leave the reception in, my mum had to nip home and grab some!

Surely no one thinks ahead that much, let alone Alfie Moon!

Edinbugger · 26/11/2013 20:46

It did stretch the bounds of credulity even for EE. I was v bothered by the fact that Kat and her son were sitting in the over wing emergency exit seats. Was obviously done to allow extra room for filming but a child would never be allowed to sit in that seat as they wouldn't be able to open the emergency doors. Off now to get myself a life...

lifesgreatquestions · 26/11/2013 20:53

Aw, I catch an episode our two a year. Assn glad they are back together. And that Michael is gone. Should be a happy new year really!

MommyBird · 26/11/2013 20:56

Didn't Roxy remind him to get it because of them going on honeymoom? not that i watch it every night

WaitMonkey · 26/11/2013 21:13

I don't watch EE, but I was very surprised when I got married that we didn't have to show any id at all. CofE church.

Damnautocorrect · 26/11/2013 21:35

There was a big point made of roxy "don't forget to pack your passport" for the honeymoon.

WorraLiberty · 26/11/2013 21:40

The whole thing was ridiculous

I mean giving the pizza boy 'a good few quid' and Ian's watch for the moped?

Dumping it in the airport carpark and dashing in without getting wrestled to the ground by security.

Oh yes, and not getting arrested for his behaviour on the plane.

I still watched it though Blush

FreakinScaryCaaw · 26/11/2013 22:34

Was all a bit of a farce really.

Is it usually daft? I know it's a soap and I should get a life Wink
