To wonder who would call a child Elektra?

Heard this when out yesterday. Didn't the original Elektra want to kill her mother?
Also the mother (real one, not the Greek one) had the table manners of a famished farmhand.

These judgey pants are terribly tight!

If the sportswear brand wasn't so damn well known, I'd like Nike.

Branleuse · 25/11/2013 19:44

I think its fabulous, and much nicer than your name

AtishooAtishoo · 25/11/2013 19:45

Thinking about it, I knew a boy called Elecktro.

ZenNudist · 25/11/2013 19:47

Same people who think Blade is a nice name for a boy.

Or Thor

fluffiphlox · 25/11/2013 19:48

I think calling yourself branleuse you are on shaky ground there.Wink

Elektra is a no go, along with Cassandra and Heathcliff.

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream · 25/11/2013 19:52

But there's nowt wrong with Thor. There was a lovely bloke called Thor in my year at school.

Electra is quite nice, but I prefer it with a C. It's better than some names I've heard.

Out of the myth names I always adored Hera. I wish I could use it.

MunchMunch · 25/11/2013 20:05

I like Electra/Elektra but wouldn't use it. Nicole Richie has a ds named Sparrow! Could have called him something hard like Hawk. Grin
Jessica Simpsons sister Ashley has a ds called Bronx Mogli Confused

I also like the name Minerva (if I'm pronouncing it correctly - Min-erva?) I don't know of any back story with that name but I've never looked it up.

I know of a:
Lilith, Anakin (from Star Wars) Betsy, Matilda and Shania, I'm sure there's other names round here that are "different".

SpikeyChristmasTree · 25/11/2013 20:07

I've just met a boy called Random.

MunchMunch · 25/11/2013 20:09

I've also heard of twins called Ronnie and Reggie

Spinkle · 25/11/2013 20:13

One year my class had; 2 Summers, an Autumn, an Ocean, a Sky and a Mahongany. Very erm, lovely. Same class had a Kyer (huh, girl) All the rest were called Ryan or Kimberly.

Spinkle · 25/11/2013 20:15

*Mahogany. Apols to any Mahoganys out there

SnookyAnyFuckerPooky · 25/11/2013 20:26

My Greek teacher was called Elektra.

Caitlin17 · 25/11/2013 20:45

munchmunch I hope you like owls. And a Minerva wouldn't be scared of spiders

lljkk · 25/11/2013 20:46

I have an American aunt called Janice. Wink. Born about 1942.

MunchMunch · 25/11/2013 21:00

I like owls from far away, can't stand any kind of flappy wings, hate the noise next to my ears . I also you tubed how to pronounce Minerva and I've been saying it right.

fluffiphlox · 25/11/2013 21:17

lljkk I am considerably younger than that but still ancient, nonetheless.

VikingVagine · 25/11/2013 21:34

I had a Carmen and an Elektra in the same class last year.

LilyTheSavage · 25/11/2013 21:39

My mum's a midwife and the best named baby she delivered was called Barry Geronimo Smith. Love it!

Areyoumymummysnet · 25/11/2013 21:58

In my previous job I was taking details of a family; Ms ..... First name Karla ( or something) first child. Nike. Which I read out phonetically as Ny key. ( as it is) "Nah" said Karla. "Its said Nyk.Are you thick? " Hmm
And just to deflate my own pretentions, we had a long discussion about giving dd a fourth name of Ornette. Yeah yeah I know.Blush

Grokette · 25/11/2013 21:59

My best friend's middle name is Clytemnestra. Poor bugger.

ShinyBauble · 25/11/2013 22:02

I love the name Persephone. I don't know why that is considered an odd name, but Stephanie, which sounds quite similar, wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

TooTabooToBOOOOO · 25/11/2013 22:30

I know of a baby called Khaleesi after a character in Game of Thrones.

Elektra seems positively traditional in comparison Grin
