Just don't know who and what to believe anymore on here.

OP posts:
POTC · 23/11/2013 20:15

I agree with sleepyhead, I've been here 7 years but not been posting for the last couple of years. When I was last on there were very similar threads to this and when I joined I too remember the regulars complaining if we hadn't checked the archives before starting a thread!

GoshAnneGorilla · 23/11/2013 20:20

It's when you see people getting very heated over such an obviously bollocks OP. There was a prime one this week.

In fact, it seems that certain subjects go in and out of vogue for trollery. Single mothers on benefits seem to be the hot one of late.

But, I find some long-standing "persona posters" equally annoying, because half of what they post is utter rubbish too.

elskovs · 23/11/2013 20:21

Who gives a shit who is "trolling"???

Its mindless entertainment isn't it?

If you care that somebody writes words that aren't true on an anonymous forum or if you get so invested in some faceless nobodys life that you lose sleep over it then you are spending too much time online. And you need to get a life. (that's a general you, not directed at anyone)

I honestly don't care.

bimbedybam · 23/11/2013 20:21

deepfriedsage lol...but noooo

scottishmummy · 23/11/2013 20:22

Frankly if mn irks or becomes too annoying you can log off

Golddigger · 23/11/2013 20:29

Imagine if we all lied and all made up stories.
Muses. Cant think what the end result of that would be.

scottishmummy · 23/11/2013 20:31

One cannot corroborate anything online you need to be online savvy
Mn has had its pram scams, elaborate stories as do all sites
I don't think here has a higher propensity to trolls than anyplace else

ShylaMcCall · 23/11/2013 20:37

I reported the deleted Christmas present thread the night it went up, was told it was fine then the OP ramped it right up the next day and insulted and upset people. Lovely, helpful posters.

It does matter.

But this is only my opinion and being Victoria Beckham in real life, I find that people rarely listen to me Sad

elskovs · 23/11/2013 20:41

What made the Christmas present thread "trolling"

The part where she said she felt sorry for kids who only got 3 presents?

That doesn't make her a troll does it Confused The original post was still a genuine question. She just got sick of being insulted and got angry.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:45

It was a made up thread.

That's trolling

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:46

Do you know what a troll is?

ShylaMcCall · 23/11/2013 20:48

I'm not sure. You'd have to ask HQ. I assume you saw the deletion message?

Why not just remove the "angry" posts from the OP unless the entire thing was a suspected fabrication?

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:48

Shyla, your husbands is round at mine if you are wondering where he is.

elskovs · 23/11/2013 20:50

Bunfight as per I think.

No way she made up those lists. She had budgeted down to the last penny!

ZenOfPetals · 23/11/2013 20:50

Usual- was he caught googling you?

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:51

Mr Beckham is here modelling his pants.

ShylaMcCall · 23/11/2013 20:54

Grin at Zen and usual.

She had listed a holiday flight for just one of the 19 month old twins. I don't do my budgets like that Confused

ShylaMcCall · 23/11/2013 20:59

It wasn't a bunfight as per anyway. It was, "We didn't believe this was started with honest intentions"

It might have been a plug for the toyshop for all I know, but the nastiness wasn't on.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 21:02

MN don't delete threads just because they got a bit arsey.

They delete them if they are posted by people making shit up.

elskovs · 23/11/2013 21:05

She made up the lists? Confused

Either way, trolling is harmless IMO and I really don't care if half of what I read is bollocks, it has the same entertainment value to me.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 21:06

No she made up the whole thread.

scottishmummy · 23/11/2013 21:10

Trolling that encourages disclosure or creates an emotional drama causes distress
Not all trolls are created equally, and I suppose that's the rub
I think folk should be savvy, not disclose too much and be mindful tie words on a screen

RandallFloyd · 23/11/2013 21:10

I'm a lot better at spotting them than I used to be. I was a right sucker in my early days!

I got properly sucked in by one well known troller. I ended up over-sharing like mother fucker, defending her in the midst of bun fights, all sorts. I felt a right twat when she was outed.

I'm not sure there's anything wrong with being naive though. As long as you protect yourself and don't get over-involved I don't think there's anything wrong in taking posters at face value.

TheGreatWizardQuiQuaeQuod · 23/11/2013 21:11

bimb - were you shouting at me?

I hope you were not, because I was agreeing that the thing that used to happen (which was posters saying "yawn, we've done this before" and that I swore I would take a baseball bat to the next person to pull that shit.) was wrong and it made me very cross indeed

I shall be crosser if you were shouting at me when I was agreeing that it's the wrong bloody thing to do.

bimbedybam · 23/11/2013 21:28

It's not the "arsey" posts that get me...but if some poster goes to the trouble of giving well meaning advice to a "maybe" fake op then that rankles...

They MAY not be a fake op (or poster) but when they don't reply, that rankles too. Maybe just a question of good msnners, hence my Original question - am I being paranoid?

Funny also how the more confrontational posts appear after, say...8 o'clock! Hmm
