Just don't know who and what to believe anymore on here.

You always get a build up of sob stories in the run up to Xmas. I wish that MN would put a complete ban on sending cash to people. There are a load of what I see as low level trolls. Slightly controversial stuff, similar themes. Creative story writing stuff.

gamerchick · 23/11/2013 19:06

I still like to think they are in a minority though Grin

Breadkneadslove · 23/11/2013 19:29

This doesn't give a newbie like me a whole lot of hope about NM's what with all this talk of trolls and then the posts I've been reading that have left me feeling like I've walked on to the set of 'mean girls'!

TheGreatWizardQuiQuaeQuod · 23/11/2013 19:32

Grin nah, don't worry. The good far outweighs the bad.

Most of us are ok really.

sleepyhead · 23/11/2013 19:44

Tbh the troll hunting is just as damaging as the low level trolling.

So what if the poster might be a journo? So what if it's their first post? Just fuck off with all the "interesting first post op" and "op hasn't returned" (after a couple of bloody hours).

And bollocks to the old days being better. I wouldn't consider myself particularly long-standing, but I've been around for 8 years and believe me it was ever thus.

Back then newbies also got told off by some posters for not checking the archives before starting a thread, as if not asking a unique question was some heinous crime. Not seen that for a while so that's an improvement Smile

puntasticusername · 23/11/2013 19:44

I'm not.

JOKE Wink

puntasticusername · 23/11/2013 19:45

(that was @ greatwizard obv)

TheGreatWizardQuiQuaeQuod · 23/11/2013 19:49

Oh MY GOD! "Yawn, we've already done this"
Angry

I swore I'd take a baseball bat to the next person to pull that shit.
Grin

TheGreatWizardQuiQuaeQuod · 23/11/2013 19:49

Grin puntastic

bimbedybam · 23/11/2013 19:53

Breadkneadslove are you getting your n and m's mixed up? Confused

Sad to hear that some kids get their "entertainment" by trolling sites such as "MUMSnet" in their holidays??

But faith restored somewhat here... Smile

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 19:54

The trolls are the problem, not the troll hunters.

Golddigger · 23/11/2013 19:55

Both are. musmnet doesnt approve of either.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 19:56

Tbh I can't believe some of the bollocks some posters fall for on MN.

scottishmummy · 23/11/2013 19:57

If it really get to you like don't know who or what to believe, take a reality check
Mn is online discussion forum, not your pals.no one can corroborate its authenticity
I love blethering on mn,but overall trust nae fucker

WorraLiberty · 23/11/2013 19:58

I genuinely don't believe the rise in trolling during the Summer holidays is down to kids.

Kids are more interested in FB/Twitter/Digital Spy forums etc. I really can't see them taking in interest in what they'll no doubt see as a 'boring mums forum'.

I think the rise is down to adults having more time on their hands during the Summer hols because they take more time off work.

Also the lighter evenings probably means less interaction with their kids, who end up playing in the garden/street/being more active.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:00

Anyone can make stuff up on the internet.

Who knows whether any of us are who we say we are.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:01

And relationships gets trolled far more than AIBU.

bimbedybam · 23/11/2013 20:03

Thegreatwizardetc WHY BOTHER POSTING THEN? Adding nothing to the conversation...

Are we newbies expected to check the archives before we post then?

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 23/11/2013 20:03

I agree I don't reckon adolescents are thinking were can they get a rise, aye mumsnet!
Really why would adolescents want to be hanging with folk who argue the ins/oots of bf
Mn is probably a good rise for adult mixers, with key phrases and daily mail ticklist

WorraLiberty · 23/11/2013 20:04

Don't be so cynical usual

I was only just saying to George Clooney on my yacht in Sardinia, that no-one makes things up on the internet.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:07

I don't think MN gets trolled my teenagers either.

Far more likely to be posters already on MN causing trouble.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2013 20:07

By*

sleepyhead · 23/11/2013 20:09

Bimbedybam, I think she's agreeing with me (I hope). Smile

deepfriedsage · 23/11/2013 20:10

Have you been paid well for the eighteen month contract?

sleepyhead · 23/11/2013 20:12

And no, no one should expect you to check the archives before you post, as it would render 99.9% of all posts obsolete, nothing new under the sun and all that.
