Assets maybe. But theses are property, which are the actual churches. So yes, the property maybe worth 8 billion, but if they sold it all off, you wouldnt have any churches to have a baptism in. The assets also consist of funding the pensions of those retired employees, so it's not a bit pile of cash sitting there gathering dust simply being hoarded.

It's a bit like saying that Central Government have lots of money so why can't the local councils have an unlimitde supply.

Give what you can afford, £150 isa lot and, the church as to reach out to all rich or poor. It would be against the churches teachings and beliefs for a child not to take te sacrament as their parents cannot afford to donates lot

I think it is a good thing to make a donation as a gesture.

I can't believe people would have their children christened and not even make a token donation Shock

hiho84 · 25/11/2013 11:05

We were charged a set fee for my mums funeral. I would have been happy to give a donation but she was a parishioner for 60 years.

You should make a donation of whatever you think it suitable; skipping it because the Corporate HQ is loaded is a bit off-point. The churches run a lot of extremely worthy outreach programs from their donations.

When you have your children christened, you're using a service of the church that you ought to acknowledge.

StanleyLambchop · 25/11/2013 11:55

When we gave our donation we were told the church uses anything over £25 to offset against families who can't afford anything at all. The important thing in all of this is that your children are baptised into the church, the priest will not look down on you because of the amount of donation. Give what you can afford and enjoy your day!

I'm not sure if he had indulged in a pre-match drink. The non Catholic rellies were outraged. All my side of the family thought it was hilarious. It was like being in a live episode of Father Ted.

That's the Catholic Church I know and love!!! Smile
