yanbu

Why would you want such an item? What would you do with it?

I only buy class photos.

bundaberg · 22/11/2013 22:38

no. ds1 is in year 4 and I've only ever bought one of his school photos as the rest have always been awful and barely even look like him!

partystress · 22/11/2013 22:40

No YADNBU. in fact, I feel I was DBUSS (definitely being utterly stupidly sheep-like) to have ordered the minimum price package. Wonder how many more years the racket will continue?

fanoftheinvisibleman · 22/11/2013 22:42

No, I didn't either. Felt guilty as I'm not buying presents for the adults and my grandma always likes to have one. But it was hideous. Even my mum took one look and said just frame one of the many lovely pics you have taken yourself for grandma.

I don't know how they manage to take such consistantly awful pics year in and year out. It is a talent in itself!

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 22/11/2013 22:42

The tip is to have your own school photo done.

I have lovely school photo of the DC, they are done the last week of August while the uniform is new and I book a photographer at a much lower price than the school photos.

FryOneFatManic · 22/11/2013 22:43

I haven't bought them for a few years. The DCs tell me that there's such a rush to get the kids done that the DCs never feel good or have a chance to tidy their hair etc, and it shows in the pics.

I take my own, and give that one to rellies who want a pic.

ThenSheSaid · 22/11/2013 22:53

I almost never bought school photos - they were always a bit crap.

Itdidn't bother my kids at all

stickysausages · 22/11/2013 22:55

Thanks ladies! Good tip too, will keep it in mind!

I didnt buy it either. The prices are absolutely ridiculous. Not very nice photos either.

FrameyMcFrame · 22/11/2013 22:57

All of mine have been lovely!
But they hire a local photographer, not tempest...

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 22/11/2013 23:02

I have only ever bought one school photo, as it was really good. The rest have been awful. So we tend to dress the kids up in "sunday best" and DH takes a photo of them, so much nicer.
My friend takes her kids to Max Spielmens (I think it is) and has a photo shoot done there. She said they keep taking photos till she has 4 or 5 she likes.

paperlantern · 22/11/2013 23:23

yadnbu

have never bought kids school photos. none of them have been a patch on impromptu home photos and they cost 15p a printHmm

FloozeyLoozey · 22/11/2013 23:28

No ds is a beauty but he looked very odd on his last school photos. I didn't buy them.

gobbin · 22/11/2013 23:36

You could ask for them to be redone maybe.
I had my DS's Yr 11 photo redone last year, as the donkey had dressed himself in the dark, polo shirt collar tucked in on one side, bed-head hair...you get the idea.
I emailed the company (not Tempest, a local one) and they were brill - popped to their studio and had it taken again (at no extra cost).

paperlantern · 22/11/2013 23:43

still pack of lots of the same passport sized photos £7 min

photo of dc out and about grinning and looking beautiful happy and relaxed 15p

no brainer reallyGrin

pigletmania · 22/11/2013 23:43

Yanbu if tey are awful no need to, but Tempest have done such lovely photos of dd so I do. If they were not good I would not buy

YouTheCat · 22/11/2013 23:46

You must buy it!

Then use it to show future girlfriends. Grin [evil mother emoticon]

starfishmummy · 22/11/2013 23:50

DS's have been ok apart from a couple of years when they did a group pic which was some sort of photoshopped montage with the kids sort of floating on a totally white background.

I never buy them.

They're odd. And they're getting odder.

Don't see why they can't wander around the classroom taking naturalish shots of them. This uncomfy stool/white background thing looks shit.

And (not wishing to brag) I can take better pictures at home.

ZombieMonkeyButler · 23/11/2013 00:09

Is it the jaunty angle one? One year we were offered ONLY a photo of Ds2 positioned diagonally across the page!

HerlockSholmes · 23/11/2013 00:11

will never buy tempest photos. they barged in on me while i was still in hospital with ds when he was born, just waltzed into my room and barged on. i was too tired and shocked to protest.

i think it's disgusting that hospitals even allow that.

the pictures i take at home are lovely anyway, and cheap!

NoComet · 23/11/2013 00:12

Garden first sunny morning of term, before they scratch their shoes and look scruffy.

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 23/11/2013 00:13

Is it the jaunty angle one?

Oooo, we had the jaunty angle one.

Why did they do that? It looked absured.

Frostedloop · 23/11/2013 00:13

Son has had his first on taken last week, still not sure if it's worth it, taken far better ones myself which look more natural. The mark up is insane for what it is.
