I've just been informed of this. AngelCare baby monitors without rigid protective cord covers have been recalled. The advice is not to use them until they have been repaired.

Only a DailyMail one sorry. It's only a rehash of the other link and the other link has a link to the company website (which isn't working at the moment ) where you can order the repair kit.

I always thought it was a bit of a hazard, mines threaded through the slats under the mattress so there's no excess wire for him to get hold of

Hello, thank you for contacting us. We understand your concern, but there is no need to worry as this is a USA/Canada specific requirement.

A correctly installed monitor poses no risk to your baby. It is important to ensure that the nursery unit is at least 3 feet (1 metre) away from your baby’s cot and that all cords are kept well out of reach of your baby. The instruction manual clearly shows you how to set up your monitor correctly.

WTF! a 'USA/Canada specific requirement'. So it's OK for our babies to be at risk of strangulation.

Thanks Moomins for not making me feel alone - I always thought it was quite obvious they could be dangerous in that regard; ours used to be arranged the same way. I'll send off for the kit though as I want to sell ours now DCs in beds...

Id tell her so she can thread the wires out the way like I have. Wait until you see her though. If its a new baby then it wont be able to get hold of them so no immediate risk

Eugene its just so long isnt it. I have a thing about wires and cords though. O said to dp bloody hell look at it, its like having a blind cord in bed with them.

Cant remember seeing any thing about nursery unit being 3 feet away, anyway how does that help? All they have to do is pull it to them

The real answer is 'the American and Canadian authorities have given us no option but to do this but as the authorities in your country haven't noticed you can all go fuck yourselves'.

Ds actually got the wire tangled round his neck a few months ago. He is 20 months, so was messing around, but it scared me something rotten. I have given up using mine now, but did rearrange the wires so they were as hidden as possible under the slats.

It's shit though that they are only recalling in Canada - how can there be two tiers of safety??

I always thought it a bit of a hazard (also have a thing about cords/scarfs) so ours was threaded through the slats and out the bottom of the cot so there was no way DC could get hold of the wire.

Its mad, does anyone know what maximum age they recommend using them to?

Mrs maybe tell her to thread it through all the slats, its only a risk if lots of cord is left loose

All it says is ' keep wires out of baby's reach as this could a possible entanglement or strangulation injury'
