So another homework and another issue.

"Change these monosyllabic words into plurals"

An example she gave was Ostrich

Last time I checked that was singular, not monosyllabic.

None of the words are monosyllabic. The teacher is experienced and it's not the first time I've looked at the homework and seen errors like this.

I don't know if I should just point out this mistake. I haven't mentioned the others but I worry that there are things going on like this in class.

That's not good. I would say something (diplomatically).

soapboxqueen · 19/11/2013 19:36

That's not a spelling issue though. Mind I'm regularly amused by the number of people who don't know the meaning of the words they use.

bundaberg · 19/11/2013 19:40

i would totally say something! although as soapbox says, that's not actually a spelling error.

but yes... does she even know what monosyllabic means?

Nanny0gg · 19/11/2013 20:02

Definitely mention it.

That is ridiculous!

This is possibly even worse than a spelling mistake! You should definitely say something. ..perhaps a diplomatically worded note with the homework. If these kind of mistakes keep occurring it might be worth a quiet word with the head.

Something similar has happened with DD's teacher and the spelling words they have to copy out and learn. I pointed out a small error last week and he wrote a jokey note in reply blaming a typo. No problem. However it happened again this week! Given that the kids were being asked to learn the spelling of an incorrect word I thought I should point it out. I await his response (hoping he doesn't think I'm an annoying nit-picking pedant!)
