'Hi girls. I have just given my Filipino all my baby clothes and she is so grateful and sending them to her friends and family back home who have lost everything.. If any of you have any things to give then please get in touch as it's for such a wonderful cause.'

It was on a closed FB group.

I'm in North London. If you used that sort of terminology round my way you'd be lynched.

Minty82 · 18/11/2013 20:13

Oops, sorry, double posted. She's in London?!

NicolaSeven · 18/11/2013 20:28

It sounds like some weird kind of stealth boast.

PLEASE can you respond and say 'your Filipino what?'

WinkyWinkola · 18/11/2013 20:33

She won't get what I mean and will be perplexed when she's being charitable.

OP posts:
NicolaSeven · 18/11/2013 20:38

Oh well, at least the cleaner gets the clothes (and will probably still think her boss is a knobber) Grin

VerySmallSqueak · 18/11/2013 20:38

She'd be bloody perplexed if I responded to her Angry

Arrogant,ignorant parasite.Angry

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/11/2013 20:40

Makes me think of Hilly Holbrook from The Help Grin

isme10 · 18/11/2013 20:43

Pity you lot can't put all the energy you have used up here into doing something helpful to support the Phillipines community in their hour of need !!

Maybe a bad choice of words but it takes all sorts to make a world which is pretty rottten right now if you are living the Phillipines and at least she is trying to do something consructive.

She has got you all talking about it ...now are you going to DO something useful?

NicolaSeven · 18/11/2013 20:45

How do you know we're not doing something about it?

WinkyWinkola · 18/11/2013 20:47

Beg your pardon isme?

I've given plenty to DEC thank you dear.

I'm shocked at this woman's attitude towards the people. 'My Filipino' to my mind is the equivalent to 'my N word'.

So it's not actually the tragedy in the Philippines we are discussing here but the prevailing attitude to the Filipino people who work here in domestic roles.

Already have sent cash and am helping with a fundraiser this weekend. Now piss off isme and stop being sanctimonious.

sconeswithjam · 18/11/2013 20:57

It could only be worse if she'd written 'the Filipino'.

Reminds me of the mother of a family I knew who used to refer to 'the maid'. And this was in a deeply unremarkable part of South London in the late 80s, ffs. To this day it makes me cringe to think about it.

WooWooOwl · 18/11/2013 21:11

It had never occurred to me to notice that Filipino was spelled with an F when the Philippines is spelled with a P.

This language we have here is truly bizarre.

Sorry, as you were.

MyMILisfromHELL · 18/11/2013 21:17

How derogatory. She does not own her & she has a name or role (nanny I'm guessing) which is not her race/nationality. What century is she living in?

bunnymother · 18/11/2013 21:21

I wonder if the woman made a mistake in her post, rather than it being reflective of a particular attitude. Maybe she wrote the post in haste, while being harassed by her children and accidentally left out her employee's role, eg "nanny" or "cleaner"? Or maybe she missed the word while editing her post as she had originally used her employee's name then decided to refer to her based on her nationality, as that's relevant to her message.

I write most things in a hurry and sometimes miss things. It happens. I just wonder if the writer is being judged on a mistake. [I'm not the writer, btw]

Killinascullion · 18/11/2013 21:21

'No, we've given generously to DEC so we're entitled to bitch about other people's private FB posts'…sigh.

I'm with you Isme. Lead the way.

Latara · 18/11/2013 21:23

I think it's disgusting to use that phrase to refer to an actual person.

WinkyWinkola · 18/11/2013 21:40

Is it bitching to pull people up on derogatory language? Really?

And 'my Filipino' is common parlance among dh's family and friends.

Whether or not posters have donated to charity is irrelevant. Dispensing largesse does not make racism acceptable.

I would have to say something OP.
