Sounds like my xmas list! Get her an african hedgehog or snail. Very easy pets but only if shes patient and you think she can actually take responsibilty for a pet.

YoDiggity · 18/11/2013 16:55

That is an adorable list. She sounds fab. Grin

My DS asked for a micro pig once. I got him a book about micro pigs instead. He never really looked at it, so I am glad I didn't bother with the whole pig.

mumofbeautys · 18/11/2013 16:57

I suppose I should google African hedgehogs lol ... we live I flat in London btw ... I just asked her if she wanted a play farm and she no she also wants a white fence lol

Shame you don't live by a farm, where you could ask a farmer if she could sponsor a pig and visit when ever she wants.

exexpat · 18/11/2013 17:12

The micro pig etc might be a bit tricky for Santa, but he might manage a set of the Sophie books by Dick King-Smith - I think your DD would find her a kindred spirit. How old is she?

She might like to try rearing (and releasing) a butterfly. Or have you thought of sponsoring an animal at a nearby zoo or wildlife park? DS was desperate to have a pet snake when he was about 7, and really liked going to visit the snake we sponsored for him at the zoo.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 18/11/2013 17:12

Really she just wants a farm!!
I'm not sure about sponsoring a pig on a farm business forty Don't most get, er, eaten? Grin

TotallyBursar · 18/11/2013 17:15

I have 2 pygmy hogs and they are great pets but not for children.
They require attention to husbandry (kept singly in a minimum of 3ft viv/zzone), heating and diet and will be most active when dc are in/going to bed. So the daily handling, exercise and care will be down to you and your dd might be lucky and see it in the morning but will otherwise be looking at a viv. Depending on temperament you can get mildly huffy to complete bastard and they don't enjoy being woken to play during the day.
Just fyi.

Err a real bonsai tree? Bit dull!

TotallyBursar · 18/11/2013 17:17

Posted too soon sorry, new phone today.
Zookeeper for a day? All real but they don't have to come home with you!

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 18/11/2013 17:19

Or passes to a real farm for x amount of time.

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/11/2013 17:21

That is so cute! A real Land Girl!

mumofbeautys · 18/11/2013 17:22

She is nearly 5 and due to health reasons can't visit a farm at the moment ... I just explained Santa don't bring live animals in which she replied his selfish he brings reindeers for him , well I'm not leaving him a cookie lol

enormouse · 18/11/2013 17:28

The chickens might be doable. My friends kept little bantams in their London flat. At one point they even had a tiny chick in halls of residence.

Mogz · 18/11/2013 17:38

Aww bless her! She sounds exactly like me at that age. I remember being thrilled with sea monkeys, triops, ant farms, pet snails and butterfly rearing kits for Christmases and birthdays for a good few years. How about sponsoring a donkey or pony at a rescue, and there a some rare breed farms that do sponsorship for piggies and sheep that don't go to slaughter.

YoDiggity · 18/11/2013 17:43

This has made me feel a little bit teary-eyed for some reason. ConfusedGrin

mumofbeautys · 18/11/2013 17:55

I'm thinking maybe to do her room up in the theme ? Any ideas as she spends 6 hours a day in there x

OP posts:
mumofbeautys · 18/11/2013 17:56

Could get a wooden fence for her room I suppose lol like against the wall like a boarder with animal behind. Get a any farm and butterflies and some plant pots with soil ?

How about a share in FordHall Farm?

TotallyBursar · 18/11/2013 18:22

Something like this? Or more/less cartoony?

mumofbeautys · 18/11/2013 18:25

That's exactly what I meant by the gate lol :)

TotallyBursar · 18/11/2013 18:33

I bet you can put that together quite reasonably with a bit of hunting around.
A lovely bedroom make over would be pretty exciting, as long as you leave a dedicated area for the snail/ant farm and wormery! Something to do when confined to barracks that brings outside in.

Her cookie comment made me smile, cheeky monkey, Santa needs to watch himself there!

bundaberg · 18/11/2013 18:35

my 4yr old son wants a flock of birds

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 18/11/2013 18:43

what about those fur real animals do they do those in pigs? I would be tempted to look at playmobil or similar farm sets think early learning do some nice wooden ones? when my boys were young I painted a large pieceof hardboard green and got them a farmhouse, fences, farmer and animals etc that they could set up on the board, trees too and hedges, i enjoyed playing with it as much as they did too Smile it also worked for their zoo animals except we had to have lots of plastic recycling trays to act as see through enclosures some had to be filled with water for the polar bears and penguins.

kali110 · 18/11/2013 18:45

Oh at 5 def too young for a hog! Mines a huffy thing!love her too pieces though. I get her out all the time though as shes often out in the day scoffing, thats why i picked her!
What about the snail farm?
I loved snails when i was a child.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 18/11/2013 18:54

Aww get her some land snails - I currently have six (Brixton Market rescues) - fascinating creatures, and my 7 year old loves em! :)
