Please help me fix boiler - me and kids freezing arses off

just that really. I know not aibu but posting here for traffic. It's a worcester boiler and we had someone come on Wednesday to service it and since then its been going on and off. We have to push the reset button and sometimes it kick starts and other times nothing happens. It won't work at all tonight and the house is getting really cold. The guy who came to service it hasn't returned our calls and I'm desperate. Will call a plumber out tomorrow but in the meantime are any of you ladies a boiler or anyone's DP a boiler?

Can you check the error code in the user manual? (says DH)

Do you know where the guy lives who serviced the boiler? If you do, go to his house

Couple of questions what type of thermostat do you have and how high is the pressure reading.

Sorry monkey... can't help but know what you're going through. This is the first year our boiler has seemed to work after the summer break! We usually have the same trouble.

All cuddle under duvets and keep doors closed. Be careful with naked flames.

Get onto trading standards re repairman who won't return calls. he may have a history.

My first thought would be pressure too. Has the problem slowly got worse/ more frequent?

Have you bled the radiators and now its an issue?

If it is pressure there should be a pipe with a tap on it we can help you locate to top the pressure up and hopefully get it fired up again.

Has he turned the thermostat down too low?

The pressure reading is 1.5 but has dropped to zero a couple of times. It is also occasionally making a big rumbling sound. The thermostat is digistat, drayton...does that mean anything?

Like agent says, look out the manual or find it online and look at troubleshooting sections. Also look at the pressure gauge on the boiler if it has dropped, which is normal as we approach winter, then you will need to let some water into the system to increase the pressure again, there should be a valve close to the boiler for this. If it's just been serviced then it should be easily resolved. Hope you get it fixed

It's the error message that's the clue.
Is there an error message on the front of the boiler.

Second checking the pressure. It will be a little dial and needs to be in the green segment (although if it's gone on and off, is unlikely to be this).

If it is the pressure, it will be below the green segment

then you need to find the inlet and outlet taps and open them simultaneously. You'll hear a load of shooshing and the pointer will go up in to the green segment. Boiler will then work.

It sounds like the pressure is too low, when ours gets that low it locks out. We have to taps that we turn to re-pressure it, do you have anything like that?

What did he do when he serviced it? I have a Worcester and was told no need to service, they just plug in a computer as it's all computerised now.

I'm not a boiler and neither is dh but we have a Worcester boiler and I was also going to suggest that perhaps the pressure has dropped too low, it should be in the green area. You should have a loop of wire pipe that you attach at the bottom on both sides you then open the "tap" with a screwdriver (not both sides or you'll have a flood )

Same as mine, its a wireless system and batteries could just need replacing or I sometimes have a problem due to where thermostat and boiler are situated that if its damp the signal doesn't reach. When that happens I just take it off the wall and leave it near the boiler. I also find I need to repressurise the system frequently which reminds me my needs doing.

My pressure is usually about 2

Do you have little colour band indicators on your dial showing usual range of operation?

If not do you fancy trying to top it up 1/4 bar at a time to see if that works?

If it's not the pressure, it might be one of the motors. Our Worcester boiler broke down last week, and that was the reason. No comfort to you, I realise. Good luck contacting a gas engineer. Can you buy a cheap fan heater to tide you over?

Mine packed in.. The guy came to fix it and then it didn't work at all.

He had forgot to turn the gas back on.

I recently repressurised my boiler by googling the boiler type, and the Worcester website had a handy how-to video that talked me through it.

It still took me several goes, but I got there in the end...

I got mine serviced last week. The engineer had turned the thermostat right down to the coldest setting.
It's normally about 5.
What's your thermostat level?

Do you have hot water or is it not working at all?

I would also recommend looking up the code which I what I did recently when mine stopped the heating. In my case it was actually the Drayton digistat which is why I ask about the hot water as that still worked. Having the code meant the engineer could advise what the problem wa over the phone and bring the right part with him.

I mean the thermostat on the boiler itself. Not the one on the wall in the house. The one that says how hot it gets.

I had massive boiler issues in last place, usually pressure related. Are you renting? After years of issues, finally got new one installed after threatening to withhold rent....
