I received a Boots delivery yesterday. Nothing fancy, some emollients for DS2's skin, some deodorant, some shampoo, some san-pro - you get the picture.

£89 .
But apparently I "saved' £43 by taken them up on their '2 for 3' offer on some things and I 'earned' 1200 points.

We get buttered up by good sounding rhetoric of what we've 'saved' and what a 'bonus' the points are. When really all we're doing is do their market research for them.

TESCO is just as bad - I never spend vouchers in time (I clearly don't shop enough...).

I have a wallet full of store cards, yet when I am in a store I rarely have the one I 'need'. I don't shop anywhere consistently enough to every take advantage of their 'offers' (yep, I am a shop whore, but feel a deep and meaningful relationship with Lidl's coming on - what you see is what you get).

Big Shops, stopp your stupid schemes and Reduce Your Overheads, then pass those saving on to us!!

I have only a Tesco one because I hate the fuckers.

The shop assistants can never believe me when I say 'no I haven't got a loyalty card' and 'no I don't want one either thanks'.
I did manage to buy some bottles with my boots points recently, but that was probably a good few years worth!
And Tesco! Talk about Big Brother...they use those vouchers to reel you back in I reckon, when they've seen your number plate in Asda or Lidl

I save my Tesco ones up & Boost them - I've just got a rake of kids toys for Christmas.

I used my Sainsbury nectar card to get £12.50 of some clothes.

I quite like them.

I only have a Waterstones one and I almost always have it with me and I do spend enough to make it worthwhile.

Food and household shopping is done in M&S which doesn't have one or Waitrose which has some sort of scheme which I haven't joined but doesn't actually seem to do much anyway.

I don't have a Boots or a Nectar card.

I get sucked in to agreeing to get a card when there is some offer on. You know "Get our card and we give you 10% off your first order" kind of thing. Then I never use the darn thing again.

I have a BHS card which I took out some 18 years ago (I think I bought bridesmaids dresses there) - when I tried to use it again recently, it no longer 'worked' .

The only card I use is Tesco's and just recently Boots.

They are all bloodsucking giants - and we are conned in to thinking 'ooooh, that's a good offer'

Of course you get some money off if you use your card often enough and accure points.
But you've already paid for that money 'off' - it's not really a saving, it just makes you think it's a saving.

I don't have any cards as I don't have any loyalty to any shops.
I am not tricked by them at all.

I love my cards! I have them all yet only use Tesco and Nectar. I even have a loyalty card for pubs. I took that card as you get a free bottle of wine on your birthday

Re Tesco, not only do I not have a Tesco card I've never been in a Tesco. I made a decision years ago to boycott them. I'm not sure now why, I think it had to do with the truly awful Dame Shirley Porter and wanting to make sure she never benefited from a penny from me.

The Waitrose one is beginning to be important to my shopping now, they've started doing 10% off quite a lot of stuff with the card.

Don't get me started on the paper vouchers Sainsburys does. Seem to get loads and they expire quite quick sometimes and other times last ages. Petrol coupons seem the thing at the moment, fine but why not just lower the price of fuel if most people are getting discount anyway.

I shop in Iceland and home bargain.

I hate Tesco because of their sickness policy, and Sainsburys because they have the same, its rank.

I have a Nandos card as well with one stamp on it from September last year.

I think you are quite right about the fancy rhetoric PacificDogwood also about reducing costs. We have a Tesco close to us to I mostly use them and I have to say despite knowing all you say I am a sucker for their clubcard points and £5 off £40 shop. I KNOW they should be reducing prices and I don't feel all warm and 'glowy' towards them but since they aren't going to reduce their prices I'll take the points for now.

As for Boots, well I have one of those too but I refer to their points as 'nailvarnish points' and that makes me happy.

The only other loyalty card I have is is for a local coffee shop because I am forever in there (they have 2 local one is in the leisure centre and I have one while waiting for my kids to have their swimming lessons - weekly) so a free cup of coffee from them when I am buying them anyway is a welcome thing.

I guess I'm a sheep then. I love my Tesco and Boots points and vouchers and use them and my cards religiously. I am currently saving up Boots points so I can buy some Clinique I really like but can't afford.

I only have a co op dividend card.
And they have made no profits this year so no payout!

I've got a coop one, but I go in most days and at Christmas time you usually get 75-100% of what you've collected and you can swap it for cash too. I saved mine last year and with my xmas bonus I ended up with £140 cash which helped alot. There's usually vouchers to use all the time like spend £1 on fruit and veg and get 50p of points then you get that on your bonus so well worth doing imo if you shop there anyway.

Taken me a while to realise that the healthclubs coffee loyalty card is better than Starbucks. It was taking ages to get a free starbucks coffee voucher, now I realise why... it takes quite a lot of purchases to get the points needed, where as at the healthclub it is a simple buy 9 get 1 free.

I have Boots, Superdrug, a couple of Canadian ones, Starbucks, and I have a Nectar account but no card because it's lost. I never use any of them.

Well basically, if you have a certain amount of sickness days in a period of a year, you get a disciplinary, its only about 3 or 4 days, it might have changed, so in order to not get one, my ex would have to go in, unwell, bearing in mind he worked in the bakery, one time he had D and V and they asked him to go in anyway and find him another department to work in.

Sainburys also said this to my friend who had D and V recently too, and she got a disciplinary for having a 3rd sick day off, she works on the meat counter.

Its kinda gross trying to get ill staff in knowing the could spread anything.
