soul2000 · 15/11/2013 23:56

Is this site just for the top 1% of the world..........

Is there anybody who is just normal.........

OP posts:
JuneauWhoIAm · 16/11/2013 00:21

I'm admiring my finger nails at he moment.
They're definitely above average.

thornrose · 16/11/2013 00:22

There are people struggling to pay their gas bill and people struggling to pay their school fees, that why I love it here.

thornrose · 16/11/2013 00:25

That didn't come out right! It's not the struggling I love.

Oh bugger, I've had wine.

PosyNarker · 16/11/2013 00:28

What is this normal? Do we get points?

I am not academically average, straight As & a masters, but I don't think it's too relevant here and it sure as shit doesn't come up at work (even though it's instrumental in getting me the damned job).

Income likewise not average, in a good way (for me).

Social skills? I've had to work at those. I learn a lot on here as it goes. My friend are geeks, my colleagues are bankers. Different approaches are needed :-)

Oh I'm awfully short and awfully ginger. But then I'm awfully well off and awfully right wing so...

And to top it all off, I have no DC.

I'm a martial artist, a musician and biker. I didn't come from money though parents were comfortable when I reached teens and their frugality meant they have a happy retirement.

Anyway, I've given my life story and I'm not sure why. With a few exceptions OP, 'middle class', 'middle income' and / or 'educated' can mean a multitude. Most of us are just fucking normal. No-one removed any part of me when I became a higher rate taxpayer.

Cailleach · 16/11/2013 00:29

I am phenomenally average, if that helps..

usualsuspect · 16/11/2013 00:33

I never read the 'poor me' I can't afford the private school fees threads.

I just want to post 'well use the state system then like most of the rest of us plebs'

soul2000 · 16/11/2013 00:33

Thank you Posy Narker. It just seems that some people on this site have lost
the ability to understand about life outside their own bubble.

OP posts:
ErrorError · 16/11/2013 00:35

I think I am very average. Without getting into my boring life story, I think in fact I am less than average in a lot of areas, but I'm grateful that I'm alright at spelling so MN won't hate me for sloppiness. It's my one saving grace. I've got friends who are psychologists and some who are dinner ladies. I plod along somewhere in between.

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream · 16/11/2013 00:35

There are a million registered MNers. Somebody posts a thread asking for advice on a specific situation from unusually wealthy people and gets replies from a hundred wealthy people.

If I'd posted a thread saying "can anyone give me any advice about living in Bristol?" and got advice from a hundred West Country residents would you have posted "Is there anyone here who doesn't live in Bristol?"?

WorraLiberty · 16/11/2013 00:36

I'm definitely average

But I realise not everyone is, and if private school fees are something that happen to be bothering them, I've no problem with them being discussed.

One person's 'problem' will always be someone elses 'luxury'.

soul2000 · 16/11/2013 00:38

Usual Suspect Its Hidden In the What's you Income And can it pay for 3 or 4 kids at private schools. Everybody then puts their salary down ( DO NOT ENTER IF UNDER 150k PA) Richest 1% of the population and then start asking"How can we afford it".

OP posts:
ErrorError · 16/11/2013 00:38

Oh dear, when I said I wasn't getting into my boring life story, I wasn't implying that yours was also boring Posy. In fact yours sounds very interesting. You'd be very useful at my pub quiz. Wink

soul2000 · 16/11/2013 00:40

"YES" I Would ask does nobody live in "BATH".....

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 16/11/2013 00:41

There's room on MN for them to discuss their 'problems'

Not that I think not being able to afford school fees is a problem.

But just hide the thread,if they annoy you.

hmc · 16/11/2013 00:42

Why did you read the thread if it was destined to make you froth so much Soul?

AgentZigzag · 16/11/2013 00:47

You must know there are people out there who are considerably richer than yow.

Do you really feel that downtrodden and envious of them?

Everyone can do with extra cash and I'd love to have the fun of deciding what I'd do with my stash should I have one, but I don't feel any animosity to those who do.

WorraLiberty · 16/11/2013 00:47

But problems are subjective surely?

If you started a thread (for example) moaning that you couldn't get a decent pair of shoes in your size...someone (again for example) with no legs might be thinking "I wish I had your 'problem'".

But it doesn't make your problem any less, if you still can't find a decent pair of shoes in your size, does it?

usualsuspect · 16/11/2013 00:49

Well whatever, just hide the threads.

I've long since learnt to hide all private school threads.

AgentZigzag · 16/11/2013 00:59

I can't say I've even opened up a private school thread, they're so far removed from my life they're not even on my radar, same as threads with posters who have an interest in prams or shoes.

IAlwaysThought · 16/11/2013 01:00

There were about 25 people on a driver awareness course that I attended, when asked, 24 of them put their hand up when asked who considered themselves to be an ABOVE AVERAGE driver Grin

I only didn't put my hand up because I guessed where the person running the course was going, even though I am a totally awesome driver Grin

soul2000 · 16/11/2013 01:02

Hmc. Its just so wrong in the World today , to be almost involved in a Nuclear Arms race on salaries. If a load of footballers wives came on and started a thread saying, Can you live on £1Million. MY DH used to earn £3 Million a year but is contract ran out and he was only offered £1Million a year
on his new contract what would people say. Whether the people on that thread understand or not that they are far closer to Footballers than most people are to them.

We have many people using food banks who even 3 years ago would never in their worst "Nightmares" dreamt of being in that situation.

We have up to 10000 people dead in the Philippines, Millions with no shelter.
We have many Children with nowhere to sleep in the UK,yet we have some of these very very high paid people asking for "BURSARIES" and"Scholarships" . I have been very lucky in my life in Material times and certainly know people earning multiples of the numbers mentioned.

Over their dead bodies would they ever discuss Money or Salaries with anybody, or is 200k Pa now "BUGGER ALL" in London, if so these people are living in a bubble that will blow up one day.

OP posts:
ThornSayre · 16/11/2013 01:02

hmc, I suspect the OP started the thread because of your comment on the other one.

elskovs · 16/11/2013 01:06

What ???Confused

Your anger has made you unintelligible (or is the the alcohol?)

Could you try to explain what it is that you don't like about that thread?

ThornSayre · 16/11/2013 01:09

Well I reported for slating the poster rather than the post itself. Guidelines are perfectly clear.

AgentZigzag · 16/11/2013 01:13

You're talking about something akin to communism soul, why are they allowed to have so much money when there are people starving?

But it doesn't work like that, even when they've tried it there has still been some who were more equal than others.

People like to feel they're doing better than others, it spurs them on, even people with very little like to have someone to look down on, like being at the bottom of the bread line but knowing that at least you don't scream at your DH like a fishwife like 'er at number 42.
