I've got the feckin rage. I'm pretty clever, I know stuff, and my religion and culture is important to me and to my family . But this is nothing short of daft.

Vincent Nichols , hang your head in shame.

Bloody hell - are they actually expecting anyone to understand that and respond appropriately?! It nearly sent me to sleep....

Slatecross · 15/11/2013 23:33

It's shite init? I am proper dyed in the wool catholic, president of catholic society at uni, married a catholic , produced catholic kids at catholic school and I have concluded it's a load of cock .

I hope some of the context will be explained at mass ... It's a bit wordy though!

threepiecesuite · 15/11/2013 23:34

Oh I saw this on the news and thought I might have a look at it. Tbh, I was expecting it to look more like a Mumsnet Product Test survey than an A Levels Ethic Paper Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 15/11/2013 23:38

7f) How can a more open attitude towards having children be fostered? How can an increase in births be promoted? '

Not very much like an ethics paper at all, that's just bloody irresponsible in an overpopulated world.

Helpyourself · 15/11/2013 23:42
Shock I expected the results to be disregarded once they got them, but they're going to get no useful feedback from that- quantitatively or qualitatively. I'd always felt there was a lot more unwordliness and naivety than cynicism, but now I'm not so sure. Sad

What a load of old shit.

WestieMamma · 15/11/2013 23:46

I'm a Catholic with a degree in theology. I only got halfway down the first page of questions before my brain started to leak out of my ears.

Slatecross · 15/11/2013 23:49

They don't want our responses. They want the responses of the people who wrote the questionnaire - who are presumably on Rome's payroll.

Slatecross · 15/11/2013 23:51

The saddest part for me was the look in my parents' faces as I read the questions to them . They looked utterly bewildered. They're both intelligent , well educated and astute, and knew immediately what a travesty this is. For them, this matters deeply. Sad

Who is it intended for?

Whom is it intended for?

ninah · 15/11/2013 23:57

for whom is it intended?

claig · 15/11/2013 23:57

Yes, that is what I meant

ninah · 15/11/2013 23:59

I want to know, too

ErrolTheDragon · 16/11/2013 00:00

I'm not a Christian of any description, was curious because the reports on the news made it sound like some sort of survey of real attitudes among catholics towards issues such as contraception ... which is why I was a bit gobsmacked by 7f (which was one of the comprehensible ones)

ArgyMargy · 16/11/2013 00:01

This seems aimed at the clergy, not the congregation. It's asking theological questions which require significant thought. I don't know why people were expecting it to look like market research on soap powder.

HonoraRogers · 16/11/2013 00:01

Laughs at claig and Ninah Grin

claig · 16/11/2013 00:01

It seems that it is aimed at lots of different people, from lay people, to pastors, deacons, chaplains, catechists etc

So the lay people will not be expected to understand some of the more esoteric religious stuff, I guess.

HawthornLantern · 16/11/2013 00:04

It looks horribly as if some bishop were allowed to draft the questionnaire rather than actually contact someone with expertise who could help craft questions that will elicit the answers they will find useful.

I have some family members in the church and can recognise some of the terms and phrases, but it not how most of us express or think about faith and practice. i'm shocked they didn't think that through - then again it's Vin Nichols so maybe I'm not that shocked. Sad though.

Slatecross · 16/11/2013 00:06

Hawthorn, do you think vin nick is a gobshite? I ask cod that's what my dad said. They were at school together...

7f) How can a more open attitude towards having children be fostered? How can an increase in births be promoted?

A very important question. How can the green anti-human population control agenda of the elites be countered by the Church?

One, by pointing out what the goals of that agenda are and spelling out the anti-human nature of them and two by realising that the tide is changing such as today's news that China has announced that it is going to stop the rigid one child policy because it's population is ageing and it needs more young people for economic growth and to provide for the ageing population. So for economic reasons and growth, society will require human population growth and development, which fits in with the views of the Church.

Ilanthe · 16/11/2013 00:10

I'm not a Catholic, but I'm married to one and our DCs are being brought up in the faith.

It seems to me that those who are able to answer those questions will give them the answers they want. Not, yes we all use contraception, get over it, but some do, isn't is awful what can be done type answers.

I'd like to see the Catholic Church be more progressive. It doesn't look like it's going that way.
