I just want people to know not to put kids in car seats in their winter coats. Despite being told not to, my childminder put my child in a car seat with her winter jacket on. You cannot tighten the straps enough over a winter coat, and in a crash the child will be thrown out of the seat. Colder countries have campaigns every year to remind parents, we are having much colder winters and people need to know.

AliMP it's fine, honestly. There was a thread about this quite recently on this board so people are aware. I am very sorry that your CM did this. It is very dangerous, I agree.

I didn't see that thread. Its not something I have ever done (I like to whack the heating up in my car in the winter so I tend to do lots of thin layers rather than wrap the kids in duvets with sleeves) but its certainly something to think about when looking after little ones

Glad other people are aware, my CM acted like I told her that the grass was blue.
When I signed my contract I wrote on the contract to never put my children in the car seats with their coats on. So was very upset and angry when my three year old had told that she had travelled in her coat, and when she told the childminder that I never let she told her, she was told it would be alright for once! Bloody fuming, it only takes one crash!

I saw your thread and thought about it today. DD has a down jacket which crushes really thin so I did the tighten and refit test and her car seat was tight enough. You did get through to people, don't worry.

My childminder has had my daughter since she was 9 months and now also has my son(with a break when on mat leave). So was very upset that despite my numerous tellings she hasn't realised the seriousness of coats and car seats. And she is a qualified professional.
