To not put their children in car seats with their thick coats on. It is extremely dangerous as you cannot tighten the straps enough. A thick coat will compress in a crash and the child is likely to be thrown out of the car seat.

Im interested thanks for posting. So you should take it off?is it not possible at all with a thick coat to be safe for them?

Tableforfour · 16/11/2013 11:22

Thinner layers work better - a jumper or fleece with thin coat over it should be as warm and can compress when you tighten the straps.

RandomMess · 16/11/2013 11:23

Take the coat off and pop a blanket over the top once strapped up.

I didn't know this. I saw a photo on facebook a few days ago of a baby in the car seat with a snowsuit type thing on. I don't have children myself and the poster is just an acquaintance, would they think I was being a "you don't know what the eff you're talking about you non-parent" if I discreetly mentioned it. Or ask someone who knows them better to say something?

cece · 16/11/2013 11:55

Does it still apply to these sort of car seats do you think?

zatyaballerina · 16/11/2013 11:56

I saw this on here the other day, yanbu, explain away until everybody knows it.

Mumof3xx · 16/11/2013 11:58

I don't think you ABU

I think everyone should know this

I found out a few months ago and I have 3 dc who have all at some point worn a snowsuit in a car seat

RandomMess · 16/11/2013 12:03

I think everyone is recommended not to wear thick coats in the car including adults tbh.
