To advise H to dress more like the locals

When on the school run?

Someone I went to school with posted on Facebook saying they'd seen a man wearing uggs. Cue loads of replies saying kind things like he should have beaten him to death or smashed him in the face.

I commented that it was my H he had seen and at least he doesn't dress like a fat nineties throwback which was a bit unkind but I was mad.

The original poster then backtracked saying it couldn't be my H as the person had longish blond hair when my H has shaved hair. This is crap as he posted at school run time and H recognises him from the yard.

I told my H about it and he says he will be wearing a sarong next week when he sees him and perhaps some mascara.

We live in a smallish mining type town when any form of men's fashion is frowned up whereas H is from a city.

Jesus - I can't believe this! It's crazy!

I love your response and your DH's fashion plans for the future.

I suppose you probably aren't being unreasonable for ease but it seems a shame.

Rockinhippy · 15/11/2013 19:31

YABU - stuff the small minded **ers

your DH is right - I wouldn't bow down to them either - let him have some fun winding them up, doesn't sound like he cares & it will give them something to gossip about in their obviously boring empty little lives if the best they have to gossip about is your DHs footwear on the school run - what Pollocks - hilariousGrin

WorraLiberty · 15/11/2013 19:32

Remind me who the kids are again?

CoffeeTea103 · 15/11/2013 19:33

Bunch of kids. You all sound ridiculous. And uggs really.

Blu · 15/11/2013 19:38

Uggs, FaceBook, The school run, hell, all rolled into one.

BigArea · 15/11/2013 19:40

YABU but suggest he wears some leggings under the sarong next week, it's due to snow Grin

SarahFx · 15/11/2013 19:40

Coffetea103, Uggs are simply warm boots. He wears them to keep warm. Nothing wrong with that.

I wasn't going to say anything but when they started on about being violent I got angry.

OP posts:
SantanaLopez · 15/11/2013 19:42

YANBU, Uggs are ugly on women, let alone men.

hellokittymania · 15/11/2013 19:49

Tell him to wear his pjs Grin

Or the thing men wear in Bangladesh....

LaGuardia · 15/11/2013 20:59

Uggs on a man? In Hackney he would get his head kicked in.

LessMissAbs · 15/11/2013 21:02

I can't think of any town where Uggs would be fashionable.

Does he wear crocs with socks in summer perchance?

junobaby74 · 15/11/2013 21:07

What's the problem with a man wearing Uggs, I thought they were originally worn by Aussie surfer dudes to keep warm and regulate their body temperature after surfing? So worn by men first of all......

squoosh · 15/11/2013 21:12

Best post I've read in a long time! Grin

Someone thinks he should be beaten to death for wearing Uggs!
You think they look like fat 90s throwback!
DH thinks 'right lemme at 'em in my best Eddie Izzard garb'.

UGGs are shit, there ain't no denying that, but what outpost of the Wild West do you live in where Facebook becomes a seething pit of violent fury at the thought of a man in sheepskin boots? Because I want to go there!

SarahFx · 15/11/2013 21:33

I'm not saying uggs are fashionable on men or women but they are undoubtably warm and it's very chilly up here. Can't think of any similar boots for men which would be as warm. Cities are generally less insular and more anything goes. It would be the same about a woman in a hijab no doubt.

Sqoosh come to the North East!

OP posts:
Rockinhippy · 15/11/2013 21:57

Why did I just KNOW it was going to be the North East :)

Bunch of narrow minded wassacks, but still the loveliest people in the world :)

squoosh · 15/11/2013 22:18

Thanks OP, I'm on my way! Expect to see me at the schoolgates on Monday morning, I'll be the one in a Lady Gaga meat dress.

GiantSnailFeelers · 15/11/2013 22:20

uggs are hideous on anyone

but 'don't let the bastards grind you down'

If we bow to the masses they win

Daykin · 15/11/2013 22:26

DH has ugg slippers

and crocs

and these

I live in a mining town too but I'm not on FaceBook.

PoisonedApple · 15/11/2013 22:33

Those Nike things make me feel strange and not in a good way... A bit nauseous and itchy,

I love Uggs. I had them as slippers before they got famous and forgot their roots.

SarahFx · 15/11/2013 22:49

Squoosh, I'll look out for you ;-)

Yes, the NE is a lovely place but you must conform.

OP posts:
Soldierskittle · 15/11/2013 23:04

I like a man in uggs. They look better on men then women

squoosh · 15/11/2013 23:13

The people of the OP's town have heard you Soldiers, there will be rumblings on facebook before the hour is up.

p.s. you like a man in Uggs?

noslimbody · 15/11/2013 23:23

Might I suggest painted nails and lipgloss for the school run, whatever happened to standards....

claig · 15/11/2013 23:30

'To advise H to dress more like the locals'

So have you told him to dress as 'a fat nineties throwback' instead?

DoubleLifeIsALifeOfSorts · 15/11/2013 23:31

Oh yes, violence over pieces of cloth and leather... Absolutely justified Shock

Your dh should carry on wearing whatever he wants. Intolerance is disgusting (in rl and here)
