I had a beautiful sesame bagel.

I had a new tub of Philadelphia cream cheese.

I had some lovely oak smoked salmon strips.

I had freshly ground black pepper.

But I did not have a lemon, so I went on a 20 minute round trip to get one (walking).

Dh thinks I am a bit of a twat for doing this, but I think it is perfectly fine and normal.

As long as your not rushed for time (in which case it would be a bit daft) I don't see the issue. If you are going to eat something you may aswell make it enjoyable

Yanbu, lemon makes a massive difference to smoked salmon bagels. I should know cos I can't eat lemon these days and smoked salmon is just not the same without it :(

It's 100% fine and perfectly reasonable, because it made a significant difference in your opinion, whereas, someone else might decide they couldn't be bothered, which is also fine. It's a reasonable choice to have made and certainly not something to be called 'a bit of a twat' about. I wouldn't be at all happy if my DH had said that to me.
